In what was once a barren land, now there are rows of farms and family-run agricultural enterprises that are "making a fortune." Like diligent bees, they not only enrich their families but also contribute to changing the face of their homeland on the path of modernization.

Sweet fruits in challenging land

In the early days of spring, we visited Tien Tien village, Hoa Trach commune. Concrete roads stretched across the hills, dotted with numerous farms and agricultural enterprises. Few knew that just over ten years ago, this hilly area was still a desolate wasteland overgrown with weeds.

Visiting the home of Mr. Dam Cong Chinh, one of the exemplary models of integrated farm development. On an area of over 2 hectares, the farm is rationally arranged with areas for raising pigs, chickens, and fish, combined with the cultivation of myrtle, tea, ginger, vegetables, fruit trees, and melaleuca trees. In 2000, when many were still hesitant about the barren land, Mr. Chinh boldly embarked on the task of reclaiming and replanning the hilly land for multi-cropping production, using short-term gains to support long-term growth.

The production process is always linked to the application of scientific and technological advancements, utilizing readily available food sources, reducing investment costs, and improving economic efficiency. From a small initial model, his family's farm has now developed steadily, generating revenue of over 400 million VND per year. Mr. Dam Cong Chinh shared that the beginning was difficult due to a lack of experience, but now things are stable. Farming is busy all day long, but with diligence and a willingness to learn, one can still earn a living.

Thanks to successful models like that of Mr. Dam Cong Chinh, the movement to develop the hilly areas of Hoa Trach is spreading. Many households have boldly explored and applied new livestock farming models suitable to the local conditions. The hilly areas of Tien Tien and Ha Ly villages, under the diligent and persistent efforts of the farmers, have yielded fruitful results.

Mr. Dang Van Quyet, head of Ha Ly village, Hoa Trach commune, said that the locality now has many effective integrated farm models. Many households have boldly borrowed capital to raise and cultivate on a large scale and have succeeded. Most importantly, motivation is key; if one person succeeds, others will try as well. Life is improving day by day.

Staying in one's hometown to get rich

Experience shows that when people know how to leverage their internal strengths, dare to think, dare to act, and persistently pursue their chosen path, seemingly difficult areas can become the foundation for effective and sustainable economic models. The hilly region of Hoa Trach proves this. Many young entrepreneurs are owners of integrated farms that generate hundreds of millions of dong in income annually. While the vast majority of young people choose to leave their hometowns to "change their lives," these young people have chosen to "stick" to their homeland and become wealthy.

Born in 1992, Nguyen Van Cong, residing in Tien Tien village, Hoa Trach commune, is the owner of a commercial bamboo rat farm. Each year, the farm sells hundreds of bamboo rats.

Cong recounted that he was born in a hilly area and later left his hometown to work elsewhere. However, finding it ineffective, he returned home to help his parents with their farm. Income from traditional crops and livestock like pigs, chickens, and fish was decent, but he felt that achieving a breakthrough was difficult.

So, with the mindset and determination of a young person, Mr. Cong independently researched and traveled everywhere to learn techniques, and finally boldly decided to raise bamboo rats. This is a relatively new breed, with high value and is favored by the market. Mr. Cong shared that, thanks to persistent care and a thorough understanding of the bamboo rats' growth habits, his family's bamboo rat herd has now grown to about 200 animals. Their main food source is readily available local corn, bamboo, and sugarcane, which helps reduce investment costs. Each year, the model generates revenue of 200-300 million VND.

Effective integrated economic models have made a positive contribution to sustainable poverty reduction in the locality. According to the results of the review at the end of 2025, the number of multidimensional poor households in Hoa Trach commune decreased to 252 households, accounting for 2.15%.

Mr. Cong's model has not only improved his family's income but also opened up a direction for economic development that suits the local conditions and advantages. This is clear evidence of the effectiveness of economic development, job creation, and sustainable poverty reduction solutions that the local government has been implementing.

According to Pham Duc Hung, Vice Chairman of the Hoa Trach Commune People's Committee, the locality has always implemented economic development tasks by leveraging the potential and advantages of each area. Based on effective economic models spreading in the hilly areas, the locality has been implementing specific policies to encourage and motivate people to boldly maintain and expand production scale, gradually affirming the correct direction in rural economic development and creating a solid foundation for the goal of building a sustainable homeland.
