Homestay Riverside (Ma village) has made thorough preparations to welcome guests for sightseeing and accommodation.
From Hac Thanh ward, after traveling 50km, we arrived at Ban Ma Tourist Area (Thuong Xuan commune). Crossing the suspension bridge over the tranquil Chu River, whose water is clear and calm year-round, we entered the village where the majority of the population are Thai ethnic people. We stayed at Riverside Homestay, famous for its spacious environment, fresh and cool air, and dining and sleeping areas designed and built in the style of traditional stilt houses, which are quite beautiful and well-designed .
Ms. Nguyen Thi Mai, owner of Riverside Homestay, said: "Riverside Homestay has been operating since 2023. It features one communal stilt house and seven bungalows built with materials close to nature and environmentally friendly, combined with a beautiful natural landscape. Therefore, it has always been a popular destination attracting many domestic and international tourists. Furthermore, to provide the best experience for visitors, we pay special attention to exploiting the cultural identity of the Thai ethnic people in Ma village to create unique tourism products. Therefore, when visiting, tourists can explore and experience the life of the Thai people, admire their traditional stilt houses; in the evening, they can join the locals for a campfire, cultural exchange, singing, dancing, playing gongs and drums, and enjoying dishes with the rich flavors of the mountains and forests such as bitter soup, smoked buffalo meat, grilled fish, river shrimp, etc."
From Bản Mạ village, visitors can continue their journey to Xuân Liên National Park – a place with majestic mountain and forest landscapes, a cool climate, and a vast area with diverse terrain, creating one of the most biodiverse areas in Vietnam. Here, in addition to sightseeing and admiring the rich and diverse plant and animal species, visitors can enjoy boat trips on the Cửa Đạt hydroelectric reservoir, appreciating the picturesque scenery, the cool air, and exploring the lush green forests stretching endlessly. Boat drivers will take visitors to explore the beautiful waterfall system here, including Thiên Thủy waterfall, shimmering like a silver thread amidst the deep green forest; Hón Yên waterfall, still retaining its pristine beauty, with a long stream of water flowing year-round, cool in summer and warm in winter. Besides these two main waterfalls, there are other waterfall systems such as Cánh Mạ waterfall, Mưa Phùn waterfall, and Tiên waterfall. These waterfalls serve as supplementary destinations to the main falls or are suitable for small groups of tourists who enjoy exploring tranquil areas with unspoiled natural beauty.
During their journey to this area, tourists can visit the unique historical and cultural relics of the commune, such as Cua Dat Temple, Co Ba Temple, Lung Nhai Oath Ceremony Relic Area, Ho Village Communal House, etc. Speaking about the local tourism development, Mr. Le Huu Giang, Vice Chairman of the People's Committee of Thuong Xuan Commune, said: "Promoting tourism development not only brings stable income to the people, but also contributes to environmental protection, preserving cultural identity, and spreading a beautiful image of the people and land here to a wide audience of friends and tourists. Therefore, based on the potential and advantages from nature and historical and cultural relics, the commune has promoted the development of diverse eco-tourism, community tourism, spiritual tourism, Cua Dat Lake tourism, and promoted the development of OCOP products for shopping and souvenirs." Currently, many local OCOP products are displayed and sold at tourist destinations, shopping centers, and rest stops, contributing to the diversification of services and meeting the shopping needs of tourists.
In addition, the commune actively promotes tourism through digital platforms and other mass media, creating a strong and widespread communication effect. It strengthens coordination with major travel agencies inside and outside the province to create tours and routes connecting tourist destinations within the commune with tourist areas and destinations both within and outside the province.
However, objectively speaking, tourism development in the commune still faces some difficulties. The investment in infrastructure at tourist destinations has not yet met the requirements. While some family-run tourist accommodations have been invested in, they lack a systematic approach, failing to combine traditional and modern architecture. Homestays only provide accommodation and food services, neglecting to invest in experiential services for tourists. Furthermore, there is a lack of unique, attractive, and distinctive tourism products to attract tourists for extended stays. This lack of coordination is becoming a major bottleneck, preventing the effective exploitation of many of the commune's tourism potentials. Therefore, the commune is gradually implementing comprehensive solutions to overcome these difficulties and build an image and brand for Thuong Xuan tourism that attracts visitors year-round.
