After the school year ended, youth unions in all 92 communes and wards across the province simultaneously launched a campaign to raise awareness about protecting children from dangers during the summer break, especially the risk of drowning.

In Phu Luong commune, in addition to raising awareness, the Youth Union has focused on identifying hotspots of drowning risk such as ponds, lakes, rivers, streams, and overflow bridges, etc., and subsequently erected warning signs and coordinated with hamlets and residents in the area to ensure the safety of children.

Ms. Ma Thi Loan, Secretary of the Youth Union of Phu Luong commune, shared: "As an area with many ponds, lakes, and streams, the potential risk of water-related accidents for young children is very high. Therefore, the Youth Union of the commune has proactively surveyed and placed 32 warning signs in dangerous deep water areas to remind children and parents to be more vigilant."

According to the Thai Nguyen Provincial Youth Union, youth unions in 92 communes and wards across the province have carried out practical activities to prevent drowning and protect children, such as: installing warning signs in areas with deep water, strong currents, rivers, streams, and ponds; organizing commitment signing ceremonies with families to strengthen cooperation in protecting children; promoting awareness of summer dangers, especially the risk of drowning; and organizing swimming lessons for children.

Tu Hang and her emotionally rich play of colors.Outside of office hours, Tú Hằng is often seen busy with graphic design, event planning, and billboard design at home. But occasionally, you might unexpectedly find him, rugged and rugged, speeding up the mountain slopes in the highlands searching for inspiration. It seems that within him, two worlds coexist: the meticulous, disciplined side and the free-spirited, rebellious side of someone who spends their life searching for inspiration.

One of the highlights is that Binh Yen commune has organized free swimming lessons for underprivileged children. Here, children are taught safe swimming skills and rescue techniques by volunteer physical education teachers from nearby schools.

Mr. Do Nam Thang, a teacher at Dinh Hoa Ethnic Boarding Junior High School, said: "This year, the class has 38 students, all of whom are children from disadvantaged backgrounds. We focus most on teaching children self-rescue skills in emergency situations where there is a risk of drowning."

Ms. Ban Thi Oanh, Secretary of the Youth Union of Binh Yen commune, said: "The free swimming lessons program has been effectively maintained by the commune for the past two years. Our target group is children from poor and near-poor households, as well as those with particularly difficult circumstances in the area. Providing free swimming skills not only helps children protect themselves but also brings peace of mind to families with limited resources."

On a provincial scale, this June, the Department of Culture , Sports and Tourism, in coordination with the Vietnam Sports Administration (Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism), organized a training course on safe swimming skills for over 100 participants, including officials, teachers, and key collaborators.

Here, they are equipped with the most systematic and scientific rescue knowledge and skills. After completing the course, this force will become the core "nucleus," directly spreading and widely implementing the safe swimming teaching movement in villages and hamlets.

Vi Dong Thang, a trainee from Cho Ra commune, a remote and disadvantaged area of the province, shared: "In the highlands, children have very limited access to swimming lessons and water safety skills. After this training course, I will return to my hometown and immediately implement practical training sessions to equip children in my area with essential survival skills."

Long-term strategy for a secure future.

To ensure practical activities on a province-wide scale, in recent years, the province of Thai Nguyen has paid special attention to ensuring the safety and preventing drowning among children. The province has issued a plan to implement the Safe Swimming and Drowning Prevention Program for Children for the period 2026-2030 with the goal of controlling and minimizing drowning accidents among children to ensure the lives and health of children, the happiness of families, and society.
