- Over the past period, along with physical health care, mental health care for the elderly has always been a priority for the elderly associations at all levels in the province, implemented through many practical activities.
According to Mr. Nong Ngoc Tang, Chairman of the Provincial Association of Elderly People: The province currently has over 104,300 elderly people. To ensure that the elderly live happily and healthily, the associations at all levels in the province have actively maintained and developed many cultural, artistic, and sports activities suitable for their age group. Currently, the province has nearly 450 clubs and groups for the elderly to participate in cultural, artistic, and sports activities, with more than 10,000 members regularly participating.
Through these activities, NCT members not only improve their health but also have the opportunity to meet, interact, and share life experiences, thereby enhancing their spiritual well-being, reducing feelings of loneliness, and strengthening community bonds.

Mr. Nguyen Khanh Hung, Chairman of the Provincial Senior Citizens' Arts Club, said: "The club was established in 2012 and currently has nearly 30 members. Through training sessions at the club, members have more opportunities to connect and share the joys and sorrows of life. We hope that the club will not only be a place for physical exercise but also a common home where senior citizens can socialize, bond, live happily, healthily, and usefully."
At the same time, the associations at all levels also focus on caring for the material and spiritual lives of elderly people who are lonely and in difficult circumstances through maintaining and expanding the model of intergenerational self-help clubs. Currently, the province has 46 clubs with more than 2,500 members. The clubs maintain many practical activities such as healthcare, visiting members, supporting economic development, organizing cultural, artistic, and sports exchanges, and providing home care support, contributing to improving spiritual life, strengthening cohesion and mutual support within the community.
Ms. Tran Thi Bich Lan, a member of the Intergenerational Self-Help Club in the North Train Station area, Chi Lang commune, shared: "My family is poor, and life is still very difficult as I am raising my granddaughter and supporting her education alone. Every year, the club connects with benefactors who provide gifts and necessities to my family and regularly visit, share, and help my granddaughter and me. This care not only provides material support but also serves as a great source of encouragement, giving me more strength to overcome difficulties in life."
Recognizing that the family is the cradle that nurtures and directly influences the psychology of the elderly, in recent times, the work of promoting the responsibility of children and grandchildren in caring for their grandparents and parents has been effectively integrated into the "Culturally Advanced Family" movement by all levels of associations. Many families have become more aware of the importance of spending time with their elderly relatives. Listening, understanding, and sharing from children and grandchildren are invaluable "tonic" that helps the elderly dispel feelings of loneliness, live happily and healthily, and improve their quality of life.
Ms. Nong Ngoc Thoa from Luong Van Tri ward shared: "My parents are both elderly. Besides taking care of their health and ensuring they have a balanced diet and sufficient nutrients, the family always tries to spend time talking to them so they are always happy and feel cared for. During their free time and on holidays, the children and grandchildren often take them to visit relatives, meet friends, or participate in community activities."
Along with the involvement of senior citizen associations at all levels, local authorities also pay attention to creating conditions for senior citizens to participate in cultural, artistic, sports, and community activities. Many village and neighborhood cultural centers are effectively utilized as venues for senior citizen clubs; exchange programs, competitions, performances, and visits to encourage senior citizens in difficult circumstances, those who are lonely or living alone are organized regularly… contributing to helping senior citizens stabilize their spirits, live happily, and connect with the community.
It is evident that mental health care for the elderly in the province is receiving increasingly comprehensive attention. Practical activities not only help the elderly live happily, healthily, and productively, but also contribute to building happy families, united communities, and a humane society.
