The image of the police officer helping the people in the heart of the flood shines brightly.
Localities in the western part of Da Nang City are inherently vulnerable to floods and landslides. Each rainy season, this area struggles to cope. And the historic floods near the end of 2025 were no exception.
In Thuong Duc commune, where several rivers converge, it quickly turned into a vast expanse of water. I vividly remember the suffocating feeling of standing surrounded by raging floodwaters. The power was completely out, phone signals were intermittent, and all roads leading into the commune were cut off.

The police in Thuong Duc commune used a canoe to transport a patient through the rain and floods to a medical facility.

In the heart of Thuong Duc, an isolated area, I was fortunate to find shelter at the home of an acquaintance who had a generator. In the pitch-black night, amidst the howling rain and rising floodwaters, I was fortunate to receive support from the Thuong Duc commune police. My work in this flood-stricken area was facilitated by the assistance of the Thuong Duc commune police. During the peak of the flooding, the commune police, undeterred by the danger, used specialized boats to evacuate hundreds of households from low-lying areas to safety. This allowed me to capture vivid images of the police officers braving the rain and floods to help the people in this flood-affected region.

The police of Thuong Duc commune participated in addressing the aftermath of the floods at the end of 2025.
When surrounded by water, all roads were cut off, especially in flood-prone areas like Thuong Duc. Movement was extremely difficult at that time. To obtain more information from other localities, I received enthusiastic support and cooperation from the local police.
From the information and images provided by the commune-level police, I obtained crucial material for timely news reports reflecting the frontline role of the police force in assisting people in responding to exceptionally heavy rains and floods. One such example is "A warm dinner for 200 people at the commune police station in a mountainous area amidst heavy rains and floods" - reflecting how, during the emergency evacuation of nearly 200 people, due to numerous dangerous landslides blocking the roads, the Tra Leng commune police sought the opinion of the Chairman of the People's Committee and brought all the residents to the commune police station for safe shelter, after which they cooked instant noodles for the people.

Young police officers from Da Nang City, along with philanthropists, presented gifts to residents of Phuoc Thanh commune following the heavy rains and floods at the end of October 2025.
Following that were articles such as: "Da Nang's grassroots police focus on helping people during the exceptionally heavy rain and floods," "The spirit of serving the people is further enhanced during the floods," "Commune police promptly assist a Vietnamese Heroic Mother suffering from a serious illness during the severe floods," "Police forces remain steadfast during the severe floods, providing a solid support for the people,"...
Warmth of the bond between soldiers and civilians
During the historic floods at the end of 2025, the image of police officers, especially those at the commune level, braving danger to cross raging floodwaters in their boats to transport patients to hospitals for emergency treatment or to evacuate people from low-lying areas to safety after successive floods left a positive impression on the people. This allowed me to gather authentic and moving news reports about the courage of these police officers.
These news articles include: "Images of commune police officers braving floods and landslides to take pregnant women to medical facilities go viral," "Da Nang police continue to urgently assist people in responding to successive floods," "Floods in Central Vietnam surpass the historical record of 1964, police officers trek through forests and overcome floods to rescue people,"...

And after the floodwaters receded, the police force once again spearheaded efforts to support the people in overcoming the consequences, bringing urgent and heartfelt gifts to the people in the disaster-stricken areas. "After the 'great flood,' the frontline role of the People's Police Force is further affirmed," "The image of police officers accompanying the people after the devastating flood shines brightly,"... these are some of the articles that were published after the flood subsided.
The dedication and spirit of serving the people shown by the police force have been recognized and praised by the people, and many thank-you letters expressing their emotion are reflected in the article "Warm encouragement from letters for the police force after the 'great flood'".

In my writing career, one of the most unforgettable memories for me is the days I spent accompanying the police force in carrying out the "Quang Trung Campaign" - a highly humane and urgent campaign to help people repair and rebuild their homes after the historic floods mentioned above.
In the final days of 2025, I embarked on a journey stretching from the border commune of Avuong to the mountainous commune of Son Cam Ha, then back to Vu Gia, Thuong Duc, Ha Nha...

The Avương commune police joined the people of Atêếp village in celebrating the new house of the "Quang Trung Campaign".
When I arrived at Atep village, Avuong border commune, fog blanketed the roads even after the sun had reached its zenith. I witnessed the invaluable support of the commune police and the Da Nang City police, working tirelessly day and night to accelerate the construction of houses for the villagers. This led to dozens of articles about this campaign…
Following the campaign, the police force continued to stay close to the community, supporting people in stabilizing their lives and quickly starting production for the new crop season, thereby creating a solid foundation of public support from the plains to the mountains, from the coastal and island borders to the land borders.

The police in Avương border commune are assisting residents in relocating their belongings in landslide-prone areas.
Through extensive travel and writing, I've come to understand that in the most challenging and remote areas, the local police force is the strongest support for journalists. Without them, it would be difficult for us to delve into the burning issues of the locality; without them, our writings about the highlands, mountainous regions, and flood-prone areas would lack the fresh, authentic essence of reality.
To this day, I still remember the heartfelt words of Lieutenant Colonel Ngo Van Thin, Head of the Avuong Commune Police: “For us, the People's Police Newspaper is not just a media outlet, but a trusted companion on all fronts. The articles truthfully reflecting the lives, hardships, and silent sacrifices of our officers in border and mountainous areas are invaluable sources of encouragement. They help the people understand and empathize more with the police force, and contribute significantly to building a strong people's security posture. When reporters come to the villages, we consider them comrades, sharing the same goal: the peace and security of the Fatherland.”
Reporting trips during and after floods, or reporting under normal conditions in Avuong, Thuong Duc, Vu Gia, Son Cam Ha, etc., further reinforced the lessons of dedication and perseverance for us journalists. The support of local police not only helped journalists complete their professional duties but also strengthened our faith in the "common home" of the People's Police Newspaper where we work.
Stationed in the heartland of Central Vietnam, our team of resident reporters has gradually adapted to the consistently harsh, unpredictable, and capricious weather. Therefore, no matter how severe the floods, no matter how rugged the roads to the border, our writings from the heart of the flood-stricken border region will continue to be vividly updated, promptly disseminated, and will honor the courageous officers and soldiers in green uniforms who always serve the people...
