In early June, thousands of people in communes and wards across Dien Bien province received free health check-ups and consultations right at the local facilities.
The program is being implemented synchronously by the health sector to improve the quality of primary healthcare, detect diseases early for the people, and contribute to the implementation of Resolution No. 72-NQ/TW of the Politburo on strengthening the protection, care and improvement of people's health.
On June 6th and 7th, 2026, the entire health sector of Dien Bien province mobilized 973 doctors and medical staff to participate in free health check-ups and consultations at 399 health stations and locations throughout the province. Of these, 309 medical staff were reinforced from local health centers, and 54 doctors from the provincial level provided support to the facilities, ensuring sufficient human resources to serve the people.

At these clinics, people receive general clinical examinations, blood pressure measurements, blood sugar checks, internal medicine consultations, nutritional counseling, disease prevention advice, and paraclinical services such as ultrasound and electrocardiograms when necessary.
The program not only helps people access basic healthcare services locally but also contributes to building a habit of regular health check-ups and raising awareness of disease prevention in the community.
According to a report from the Na Sang Health Center, in just two days, June 6th and 7th, 2026, the center provided free health check-ups and consultations to 6,297 people. This included 847 elderly people who received health check-ups; 187 cases of chronic diseases were detected, 2 new cases of chronic diseases were found, along with hundreds of cases of other illnesses. The center also performed 453 paraclinical tests to support diagnosis and treatment.
Present at the health check-up point in Muong Pon commune, Ms. Lo Thi Phuong said: "Having free health check-ups right in our locality helps people save on travel costs and time. According to Ms. Phuong, many elderly people in the village have limited opportunities to go to medical facilities for regular health check-ups, so they hope the program will be maintained regularly."
"The doctor examined us and provided very thorough advice. Thanks to that, we understand more about how to take care of our health and prevent diseases," Ms. Phuong shared.

Alongside medical examination and treatment activities, the Dien Bien Provincial Department of Health is strengthening inspection and supervision to ensure the quality of the program. Department teams have directly inspected the allocation of personnel, facilities, equipment, medicines, and medical supplies; and assessed the procedures for health examinations and consultations, as well as data compilation in the localities.
Through on-site inspections, all units have proactively developed plans and fully prepared the necessary conditions for implementation, facilitating people's access to healthcare services right at the local level. However, the health sector also noted some difficulties such as the vast geographical area, difficult transportation in remote areas, a shortage of personnel in some areas, and pressure in managing and compiling health examination data.
Notably, in the Pa Thơm border area, the coordination between the health sector and the Border Guard forces has contributed to improving the effectiveness of the program. Officers and soldiers of the Pa Thơm Border Guard Post actively propagated and encouraged people to participate in health check-ups, while also supporting the maintenance of security and order at the check-up points. The military-civilian medical cooperation model continues to be effective in bringing medical services closer to the people in border areas.

In many mountainous areas of Dien Bien province, a significant number of people still only seek medical attention when their health has deteriorated or their illness has become severe. Therefore, bringing health check-up services directly to villages is expected to help change perceptions and improve the effectiveness of early disease prevention.
Mr. Pham Giang Nam, Director of the Dien Bien Department of Health, said: "Free health check-ups and consultations contribute to improving the quality of primary healthcare, early detection of diseases, and reducing medical costs for the people."
According to Mr. Nam, the health sector will continue to strengthen human resources at facilities, maintain regular check-ups, and promote public awareness campaigns to encourage people to proactively take care of their health.
With the involvement of the entire health sector and the coordination of local authorities and functional forces, Dien Bien is aiming to ensure that every citizen receives at least one free health check-up in 2026. This is not only a task for the health sector but also an important solution to improve the quality of life, ensure social security, and promote sustainable development in the locality.
