Strange developments regarding the iPhone 17.

The iPhone 17 did not see a price drop after its launch; in fact, its price increased sharply in China, yet it still quickly sold out, reflecting the immense appeal of the new smartphone line.

Just days after its launch, the iPhone 17 created an unprecedented phenomenon in the Chinese smartphone market. With sales growth of up to 140% compared to the same period last year and a starting price of 6,000 yuan ( US$840 ), the model was almost completely sold out on online channels.

For years, Apple users have been accustomed to the pricing of new iPhones being adjusted shortly after launch, depending on sales. The standard version usually only holds its original price for about a week before starting to drop, while the Pro version experiences less price fluctuation, and only the Pro Max maintains its appeal for longer. However, this year's iPhone 17 has completely changed that pattern.

Instead of lowering prices, the product went against the trend by increasing them and still achieved outstanding sales. According to Digital Chat Station , in the first week, 235,000 standard iPhone 17 units were activated, a 140% increase compared to the same period last year. iPhone 17 Pro sales increased by 25%, while Pro Max sales increased by 41% compared to the previous generation.

The source noted that these figures represent the number of devices activated in the first week, not official retail sales. Nevertheless, these numbers accurately reflect the market's intensity. In fact, many consumers reported difficulty purchasing the device even while willing to pay above the original price.

As of September 28th, the supply of standard iPhone 17 models has run out. On Apple's official website in China, delivery times have been pushed back to the end of October. Retailers are also stockpiling, driving up prices. According to Huaqiangbei Yuanwang shopping center, the 256GB black iPhone 17 is being offered for over 6,600 yuan ( US$925 ), significantly higher than its original price.

A similar situation is occurring with the iPhone 17 Pro series. The basic price difference in the secondary market has exceeded 1,000 yuan ( US$140 ), while the price of the version imported from Hong Kong is even higher.

Amidst supply shortages, Apple has requested its supply chain to significantly increase capacity to meet demand. According to plan, the supply of iPhone 17 will gradually stabilize and be ready in time for the major shopping season on November 11th, a time traditionally considered "Singles' Day" in China.

The surge in demand for the iPhone 17 demonstrates that Apple's appeal remains undiminished in China. The fact that the product continues to sell out despite the price increase marks a significant shift in how the market perceives Apple's flagship phone, while also creating considerable competitive pressure on rivals in the high-end segment.
