Recently, at the 2026 Asian Beach Games in China, promising track and field athletes had the opportunity to test their abilities before the major Asian Games.
Ha Thi Thuy Hang stepping onto the top podium in the women's long jump with a performance of 6.16m and Pham Van Nghia winning the men's long jump with a time of 7.44m created a significant morale boost for Vietnamese athletics.
In the women's high jump event, Bui Thi Kim Anh and Duong Thi Thao tried their best, but did not achieve the expected results. Experts frankly acknowledged that Hang and Nghia's performances were not yet ideal enough to compete for medals in a fierce competition like the ASIAD.
The Vietnam Athletics Federation is developing an ambitious project to enable its athletes to compete with powerhouses like Japan and China. Currently, 49 of the most elite athletes are being trained at two key training centers in Hanoi and Da Nang.
Instead of applying a general formula, the coaching staff meticulously designed individualized training programs based on each athlete's physical characteristics and performance goals. Talented young athletes like Le Thi Cam Tu and Phung Thi Hue, who are in good form, are new elements creating a sustainable and promising team structure.
According to Mr. Hoang Quoc Vinh, Head of the High-Performance Sports Department of the Vietnam Sports Administration, "Vietnamese athletics is in the process of systematic preparation, with high determination and a dedicated competitive spirit from the teams. The ASIAD is very close, so the intensity of training and competition will be even more active and professional."
Reportedly, the Vietnam Athletics Federation even offered a large reward for each ASIAD gold medal, aiming to maximize the motivation of the athletes.
