According to Bloomberg reporter Mark Gurman, at the Worldwide Developers Conference (WWDC) 2025 on June 9th, Apple will officially open its Apple Intelligence models to third parties.

This is seen as a significant step for Apple after deploying AI features like Genmoji, Image Playground, and text summarization tools. Previously, the iPhone manufacturer did not allow outside developers access to its platform models.

According to Gurman, the new software development kit (SDK) and its accompanying features will allow third-party applications to integrate and build directly on the same large language model that Apple uses for iOS, iPadOS, and macOS.

However, instead of accessing powerful AI models running in the cloud operated by Apple, developers will be granted access to a scaled-down version that runs directly on the device. This offers faster response times and ensures privacy, but it also limits processing power.

“This is a clear effort by Apple to boost its AI ecosystem after a rocky start. Some features, like notification summaries, have been criticized for being inaccurate, while Genmoji hasn’t lived up to expectations despite extensive promotion,” Mark Gurman commented.

This move also has strategic financial implications. Currently, the App Store is under pressure from global regulators. Recently, a US judge ordered Apple to allow developers to redirect users away from the App Store to complete payments, threatening the company's traditional revenue-sharing model.

In this context, stimulating a wave of new AI applications, directly integrated with Apple Intelligence, will help offset losses. Apple still collects fees from in-app business models, so a rich AI ecosystem will strengthen the company's position in the software sector.

Gurman suggests that Apple is hoping for a second “App Store effect” if they create a sufficiently favorable environment for developers to leverage AI. This would allow the iPhone manufacturer to create a range of new, exclusive experiences, thereby increasing the appeal of the Apple operating system and its ecosystem of devices.

The announcement of AI access at WWDC 2025 is seen as a necessary step for Apple to catch up in the AI ​​race. Competitors like Google, OpenAI, and Anthropic have spent months successfully deploying their platform models and developing global AI communities.
