At WWDC 2025, Apple officially confirmed that a new version of Siri with deep integration with Apple Intelligence will not appear this year. Instead, this feature may be released in 2026.
While Apple spent much of the event talking about its suite of Apple Intelligence and iOS 26 upgrades, Siri was only briefly mentioned. Many people have wondered about the actual state of Siri after Apple promised a major upgrade last year.
In an interview with Tom's Guide right after the keynote, two senior Apple executives, Craig Federighi, senior vice president of software engineering, and Greg Joswiak, vice president of worldwide marketing, explained the delay in detail.
Siri has not met expectations
Apple has developed two architecture versions for Siri, including V1, which was introduced last year, and V2, which has more advanced features. Although the first version of Siri was technically ready, the company decided not to release it because it did not meet the quality expectations of users, Mr. Federighi said.
“We realized that if we tried to release V1, it would not meet Apple's standards and customer expectations,” said Federighi.
Apple then shifted all its resources to developing the V2 architecture, a more unified and powerful version that can handle more complex contexts and perform smarter actions.

“The V2 architecture is not a redesign, it is an expansion and refinement of V1. It is the foundation for a much more intelligent, personalized, and reliable Siri experience,” Federighi added.
Apple has been testing the V2 architecture internally for some time now, but it’s not stable enough to release it to the public yet. So instead of committing to a specific release date, the company is keeping quiet until it’s ready to ship the product to consumers.
At WWDC 2024, the iPhone maker confidently demonstrated Siri with a new interface, the ability to remember conversations and perform many complex tasks. However, according to Federighi, the V1 version still has many limitations after many months of testing and is not ready to be released to the market.
Apple needs more time
Apple insists that its goal is not to build a chatbot. Instead, the company wants to build an AI platform that can assist users with every day task. From writing emails, summarizing notifications, translating text, creating images, to suggesting intelligent actions based on content, Apple Intelligence is designed to be deeply integrated into the operating system.
In an interview with the Wall Street Journal , Federighi gave what he considered to be the "most honest answer from Apple." He said that when the Internet began to develop, no one asked why Apple did not have a search engine or e-commerce site like Apple.
"The Internet is huge, and it's an opportunity for many, many companies and for people to do many things on it. It's also a great opportunity for Apple. Apple has created more ways to use the Internet than any other company. But that doesn't mean your entire experience with the Internet has to happen inside Apple," Apple's software boss said frankly.
One important factor that makes Apple deploy AI chatbots slower than its competitors comes from its commitment to privacy. The entire Apple Intelligence system is designed with a direct data processing model on the device, combined with a private cloud service (Private Cloud Compute) to keep user information absolutely safe.

“We want to deliver powerful AI experiences without compromising privacy. That takes time,” Federighi said.
The delay in launching the new Siri shows that Apple is not rushing to jump on the AI bandwagon as a mere technology race. Instead, the company is building a long-term, secure, and user-friendly platform.
Apple hasn’t announced a specific release date for the new Siri. iOS 26, which will include the first Apple Intelligence features, will launch this fall, while the full Siri version will take at least another year to fully develop.
