World number one tennis player Novak Djokovic reached an agreement to liquidate his contract with coach Goran Ivanisevic on March 26, ending six years of cooperation.
Djokovic shared the above information Instagram, with a thank you to the Croatian coach. According to the Serbian tennis player, the two sides decided to stop cooperation a few days ago, and this does not affect the friendship between the two.
“I still remember the day Ivanisevic came to my team in 2018,” Nole said. “At that time, Marian and I were looking to renew ourselves, and Ivanisevic brought a magical serve. In fact, he not only helped me serve better but also brought a lot of joy, smiles, number one position, records and 12 Grand Slams."
Ivanisevic was initially an advisor on Djokovic's team, when coach Marian Vajda was still in office. The Croatian legend took over more work from the summer of 2019, when Vajda gradually stepped back. With Ivanisevic's help, Djokovic continuously won Grand Slams and reached a record of 24 titles. The Serbian tennis player also broke a series of important records in the tennis industry, such as the number of weeks holding number one in the world, the number of ATP Finals, and Masters 1000 during the six-year period with Ivanisevic.
Djokovic broke up with Ivanisevic during a difficult period. He has not reached the finals in the first three months of this year, missed many events and only played two tournaments. The 36-year-old player will enter the clay season without knowing who the new coach will be.
The next tournament Djokovic registers to attend is the Monte Carlo Masters, starting April 7. He is practicing on clay courts in Belgrade after withdrawing from the Miami Open last week. Nole's goal is to successfully defend Roland Garros and win Wimbledon this summer. He is also interested in attending the Paris Olympics to conquer the missing gold medal in his collection.
