It is green, clean, and beautiful.
As if by appointment, this April, the time when La Gi celebrates 50 years since liberation and also marks 20 years since its urban development, flowers are blooming profusely along the town's streets. The trumpet trees on Hoang Dieu and Ngo Gia Tu streets have begun to burst forth with clusters of delicate pale pink blossoms. The crape myrtle trees have carpeted Nguyen Truong To and Le Minh Cong streets with their golden blossoms. The Bauhinia flowers add a touch of vibrant purple against the green foliage of the trees along the roads leading to the sea, such as Cach Mang Thang 8, Nguyen Du, and Chu Van An streets. The sandalwood trees are showing off their shy yellow blossoms in the foliage along Hung Vuong and Ngo Duc Ton streets. Furthermore, on and within the fences of houses in Tan An and Phuoc Hoi wards, many kinds of flowers and ornamental plants are also adorned, demonstrating the care given to the green spaces in each home.

Compared to last year, when La Gi accelerated its efforts to meet the criteria for public green space in urban areas, aiming for a minimum of 5 m2/person, along with four other criteria for the town to be recognized as having completed the new rural development program for the 2021-2025 period according to Government Decision No. 320, it now seems as though the town has reached its goal. This is evident in the green, airy public spaces, the result of years of urban beautification efforts, most notably the newly opened, upgraded, and renovated roads, wide and spacious with sidewalks and greenery adorned with flowers, enhancing the town's beauty. It's noteworthy that, compared to other towns in the province, La Gi's urban beautification process has been smoother, despite the bustling streets and the often lengthy compensation process. However, in La Gi, thanks to the prior demarcation of most road boundaries, expansion and upgrading projects can be implemented as soon as funding is available, without the compensation complications encountered in other areas. The 175.271 km of roads invested in and upgraded over the past five years is proof of this. Of course, there are also many other factors related to the scientific arrangement of investment procedures, allowing projects across various sectors to be constructed and disbursed efficiently.

In fact, over the past five years, La Gi has consistently been the fastest disbursement of public investment capital, achieving the highest disbursement rate compared to other departments, localities, and units in the province. Furthermore, the town has also consistently mobilized more infrastructure investment capital from its own revenue than from provincial funds. Sometimes it's even three times higher; for example, in 2024, the planned capital was 267,566 million VND, but by the end of the year, 257,374 million VND had been disbursed, reaching 96.19% of the plan and 118.41% compared to the same period. Of this, provincial funds accounted for 59,566 million VND, reaching 100% of the plan, while town funds accounted for 197,808 million VND, reaching 95.01% of the plan and 155.10% compared to the same period.

Recognizing that public investment leads to private investment, the mobilization of resources for the development of socio -economic infrastructure in La Gi town has increased year after year. According to the report of the La Gi Town Party Committee, the overall result for the 2021-2025 period shows that the town mobilized 9,221 billion VND, an increase of 125% compared to the previous term. Notably, of which, 2,021 billion VND came from the state budget, focusing on key projects; while 7,200 billion VND came from non-budgetary sources, spread across many sectors. Thanks to this, La Gi has decided to develop a distinct coastal urban area with a focus on commerce, services, and tourism, reaching the stature of the southern region of the province.

Total state budget revenue in La Gi increased by an average of 13.51% annually, exceeding the resolution's target by 3.51%. In particular, the town government focused on exploiting revenue from land use rights to concentrate capital on urban beautification plans.
Voluntary continuation
The current state of La Gi town is due to the contributions of its people, both directly and indirectly, both as beneficiaries and contributors, much of which revolves around the lives of the residents. First, the poverty rate in the town has decreased to 0.54%; the estimated per capita income in La Gi by 2025, according to the Provincial Statistics Department, is expected to reach 70.35 million VND, compared to 65.028 million VND last year… Furthermore, practical daily improvements have significantly raised people's living standards. For example, all 57 main roads in the town are illuminated, 100% of the population in the inner city has access to clean and hygienic water, many residential areas have security cameras, and the health stations are well-equipped…

In La Gi, the most striking change at this time is how people handle waste. Having benefited from a clean environment thanks to the household waste treatment plant in Tan Binh commune with a capacity of approximately 75-85 tons/day; and the household, industrial, and hazardous waste treatment plant located within the La Gi fishing port with a capacity of 1,000 m3/day/night, the people of La Gi town have now begun sorting waste at source as a daily habit. To date, this is something very few localities in the province, even in urban areas, have been able to do on a large scale, due to various reasons such as people not yet overcoming ingrained habits, and garbage trucks not being able to sort waste…

Earlier, in mid-2023, the Standing Committee of the Town Party Committee issued Directive No. 32 launching the campaign "La Gi Town residents join hands to protect the environment". Since then, the town has organized a prolonged propaganda campaign in various forms, from installing billboards, hanging banners, using loudspeakers, integrating it into community activities in villages and neighborhoods, organizing propaganda conferences, to equipping more than 200 large trash bins with sorting labels, placing them in public places, agency offices, and along roads; distributing 886 free trash bins and more than 500 kg of colored plastic bags to guide people on sorting; distributing more than 1,000 leaflets and prioritizing a lot of time for broadcasting and promoting waste sorting at source.

National Highway 55 passes through the La Gi area.
And now, La Gi can proudly boast of its people's heightened environmental awareness, contributing to the creation of a green, clean, and beautiful coastal urban landscape that the government has strived to build, not only for the coastal tourism industry. This is a voluntary continuation of the people's efforts, considered a valuable asset in the face of changing circumstances, as the city of La Gi will no longer exist and will soon be replaced by two wards and one commune, but its role in connecting with the southern key economic region will continue. Especially the Vung Tau - Binh Thuan coastal road (DT994), approximately 76.86 km long, designed with 6-8 lanes and a total investment of about 9,246 billion VND, had a section opened on April 19th and is expected to be completed in 2026, connecting to the area formerly belonging to La Gi. At this time, the "youthful vitality" of the town that the Party Committee and people of La Gi town have built up over the past time, including the valuable capital from the people's awareness, will continue to be promoted in the construction of a new homeland.
