Early in the morning, while the small road was still shrouded in mist, Mr. Giàng Seo Pao from Thượng Hà commune prepared a large iron cage to hold his two most beautiful goats before transporting them to Cốc Ly market. As soon as he arrived and stopped his vehicle, someone approached him to inquire about buying the goats. The price was 180,000 VND/kg, so without any bargaining, the buyer immediately loaded the goats onto their vehicle and took them home.

Giàng Seo Pao's family has many years of experience raising goats and usually maintains a herd of more than 10 animals. Raising goats is not difficult and does not involve as many risks as other livestock, so with someone as experienced as Mr. Pao, the herd continues to thrive.
In Thuong Ha, the area where Giang Seo Pao's family lives has all the favorable conditions for raising goats, such as abundant and diverse food sources and many large grazing areas, so the quality of the goats is always guaranteed. Because of this, Pao's goat trading at the market is quite easy.

Taking advantage of the last market day of the year in Bac Ha, Mr. Hoang Van Ma, a resident of Xuan Thuong area, Bao Yen commune, also brought his goats to sell. Xuan Thuong is considered the capital of goat farming with its vast grazing grounds and abundant food sources. Goat farming has provided Mr. Hoang Van Ma's family and many other households with a stable income.
Preparing for Tet (Vietnamese New Year), Mr. Hoang Van Ma took three goats to sell to earn money for the festivities. The high-quality goats, carefully cared for, sold successfully without much effort. With the money in hand, Mr. Ma went to the meat section to buy a few kilograms of good quality pork and a small peach blossom branch before getting back on his motorbike and returning home.

The goat market is separate from other areas of the highland market. Here, dozens of goats ready for slaughter gather, with buyers and sellers bustling about. They inspect and assess the animals, but there is no bargaining because a fixed price has been set beforehand. The price of goat meat during the period leading up to Tet (Lunar New Year) is 180,000 VND/kg; before that, the price was only 150,000 VND/kg. Demand for goat meat is high before Tet because it is a high-quality food that can be used to prepare many delicious dishes for daily meals.
The goat market is also a source of additional income for some people. With just a weighing scale, standing in a corner of the market, each goat weighing costs 5,000 VND, allowing the goat weigher to earn a considerable amount. This is the supplemental income for Ms. Dang Thi Hong, from Lang Bom village, Bac Ha commune.
Ms. Hong is the first to arrive at the goat market with her scales. After completing their transactions, buyers and sellers would ask Ms. Hong to weigh their goats for them. Ms. Hong always hopes the market will be as lively as possible, with many transactions at each market session, satisfied buyers, happy sellers, and increased income for her.

Each goat market session lasts only a short time in the early morning. After the market closes, no seller has to sadly take their goats home. All transactions are successful. The goat market is a beautiful feature and highlight of the highland markets leading up to Tet (Lunar New Year), attracting not only traders but also many tourists and market-goers who linger to watch out of curiosity.
