The person who created the unique Thanh Son longan variety in the Western region is Mr. Nguyen Thanh Son (56 years old, residing in Cho Lach commune, Vinh Long - formerly Cho Lach district, Ben Tre).
Mr. Son propagates Thanh Son longan varieties and sells them in large quantities to the market.

The Thanh Son longan variety is the result of over 8 years of selection and experimental cultivation by Mr. Son from a mutated longan tree in his garden. The advantages of the Thanh Son longan are its completely seedless, thick, firm, golden-yellow flesh, and delicious aroma. Notably, this variety produces two natural harvests per year, is resistant to witches' broom disease, has few pests and diseases, and is very suitable for long-term and sustainable cultivation.

"Ordinary longan has very large seeds, thin flesh, and is very juicy, with very few seeds. However, the longan variety I've selected almost all produces fruit with small, seedless fruits, thick, fragrant, and delicious flesh. Currently, there are no other longan varieties on the market with completely seedless, embryo-free fruits like this. Thanks to this, the longan is easy to preserve, convenient for processing, drying, canning, and exporting," Mr. Son shared.
Besides its superior fruit quality, the Thanh Son longan variety also has high adaptability and is easy to grow in many different regions such as Tay Ninh , Nha Trang… and even produces larger fruits and higher yields.
After 18 months of planting, approximately 30 kg can be harvested per tree, and about 50 kg per tree when it reaches 5 years old.

With its short trunk and compact canopy, this longan variety is suitable for growing in pots as an ornamental plant or in greenhouses, and can bear fruit early in just over 18 months. Growers can induce off-season flowering or cultivate at high densities, something rarely seen in traditional longan varieties.
According to Mr. Son, after 18 months of planting, each tree can yield about 30 kg, and about 50 kg when it reaches 5 years old. Currently, more than 100 saplings planted experimentally for nearly two years have started to bear fruit steadily, with a yield of 20-25 tons/ha.

Among them, the Thanh Son avocado is highly valued by farmers for its adaptability to sweet alluvial soil and acidic soil, producing delicious fruit and stable yields. The Thanh Son jackfruit variety also impresses with its large fruit (15-20 kg, some fruits over 30 kg), thick flesh, attractive orange-yellow color, and rich, sweet taste.
