What is 18K gold?
To determine the purity of gold, a karat scale (abbreviated as K) is used to indicate the degree of gold's purity in an alloy. This scale ranges from 1 to 24.
Accordingly, 18K gold is gold that contains 18/24% gold, meaning it has a gold content of 75%, with the remaining 25% being other alloys (such as copper, silver, nickel...).
According to Vietnamese tradition, the goldsmithing profession has a convention for gold content based on purity as follows: 24K gold is 10 purity; 22K gold is 9.2 purity; 20K gold is 8.33 purity; 18K gold is 7.5 purity; and 14K gold is 5.83 purity.
Therefore, according to regulations, 18K gold is 7.5 karat gold.
Thanks to its 25% alloy reinforcement, 18K gold is significantly harder than 24K gold. This is why 18K gold is the ideal material for crafting exquisite and intricate jewelry without fear of dents or damage during daily use.

How many grams is one tael of 18K gold?
According to the gold measurement system in Vietnam:
1 tael of gold = 10 chỉ = 37.5 grams
Therefore, we can calculate that 1 tael of 18K gold = 3.75 grams (37.5 : 10 = 3.75)
Characteristics of 18K gold
18k gold has a bright yellow color, lasting shine, and is easy to shape into various forms. Because the pure gold content is lower than 24K gold, the price of the product is also more affordable, suitable for the budget of the vast majority of consumers. Specifically, at PNJ, the price of 750 (18K) gold is currently at 11.148 - 12.038 million VND/tael (buy - sell).
Here are some of the outstanding characteristics of 18K gold:
High durability : Compared to pure 24K gold (99.99% gold), 18K gold is much harder and more durable, less prone to dents or scratches during use. This makes 18K gold an ideal choice for crafting everyday jewelry.
Variety of colors : Depending on the ratio and type of metals mixed, 18K gold can come in many different colors, such as traditional yellow gold, white gold, rose gold, etc.
Moderate value : 18K gold is less valuable than 24K gold, but it is still considered a high-value gold and is popular in the jewelry industry.
Easy to work with : Its moderate hardness allows 18K gold to be easily shaped and crafted into many complex and intricate jewelry designs.
