"The Eyes of Death" seen from space

(NLĐO) - NASA describes what they captured as a pair of terrifying, staring eyes surrounded by blood-red "streams."

According to NASA, this terrifying image was captured by the James Webb Space Telescope, which the agency developed and now co-operates with ESA and CSA (the space agencies of Europe and Canada).

The ghostly eyes looking from space are actually IC 2163 and NGC 2207, two galaxies that are actively forming stars.

Each year, these galaxies produce a mass of stars equivalent to 20 of our Suns, while the ancient Milky Way, which contains Earth, only produces about 2-3 times the number of stars as the Sun.

The ghostly images captured by the telescope are due to their interaction with each other.

These galaxies first passed each other millions of years ago and are continuing to pass each other again.

The smaller spiral galaxy on the left, classified as IC 2163, passes behind NGC 2207, the larger spiral galaxy on the right.

Each time they pass each other, the galaxies collide and become jumbled. This could lead to a complete merger in the future, starting with the spiral "arms," ​​followed by the bright core that forms the eyes looking down from space.

However, the merger phase we are seeing is far from over. The spiral structure of both galaxies is still clearly visible, indicating that they haven't significantly impacted each other yet.

In the future, as gravity tightens around them, the interaction intensifies, and both galaxies will shine brightly as star formation accelerates.

However, eventually star formation will slow down as their gas and dust reserves are depleted after mergers, and the landscape will become quiet.
