Comrade Khamtai Siphandone has passed away.

According to a special announcement on the evening of April 2nd by the Central Committee of the Lao People's Revolutionary Party, the National Assembly, the Government of the Lao People's Democratic Republic, and the Central Committee of the Lao Front for National Construction, Comrade General Khamtai Siphandone, former Chairman of the Central Committee of the Lao People's Revolutionary Party, former President of the Lao People's Democratic Republic, and a veteran revolutionary of the Lao People's Revolutionary Party, passed away at 10:30 AM on April 2nd, 2025, at the age of 102.

Comrade General Khamtai Siphandone was one of the core leaders of the first generation of the Central Committee of the Lao People's Revolutionary Party, who led and directed the national democratic revolution in the past and the cause of protecting and developing the country.

Throughout his life, Comrade General Khamtai Siphandone dedicated his intellect and strength to the revolutionary cause of the Lao People's Revolutionary Party, to the development of the country, and to the prosperous and happy lives of the Lao people.

The passing of Comrade General Khamtai Siphandone is a great loss to the Party, the State, and the people of Laos.

In this time of profound sorrow and grief, the entire Party, army, and people of Laos will transform their grief and boundless sorrow over the passing of Comrade General Khamtai Siphandone into practical action, united alongside the Central Committee of the Party, upholding the heroic traditions of the country and the Party, and resolutely implementing the Party's reform line in depth, continuing to improve the people's democratic system and advance towards the socialist goal.

To express our profound respect, deep gratitude, and boundless sorrow for Comrade General Khamtai Siphandone, the Central Committee of the Party, the National Assembly , the Government of the Lao People's Democratic Republic, and the Central Committee of the Lao Front for National Construction have decided to hold a five-day national mourning period, from April 3-7, at the National Convention Center in Vientiane.
