The Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (PHIVOLCS) reported that at 8:54 PM local time (7:54 PM Vietnam time) on April 4th, an offshore earthquake with a magnitude of 6.6 shook the eastern part of the country. There are no reports of casualties or damage from the earthquake so far.
According to the institute, the earthquake occurred approximately 120km southeast of the town of Gigmoto in Catanduanes province, with its epicenter at a depth of 9km. PHIVOLCS predicts aftershocks will occur and cause damage. Residents in many areas on Samar Island and the Bicol region of Luzon Island also felt the tremors.
The Philippines lies on the " Pacific Ring of Fire" and frequently experiences earthquakes and volcanic activity.
