The earthquake occurred at approximately 7:03 PM (local time), causing seismic activity of level 5 on Japan's 7-level seismic scale in some areas of Ibaraki and Chiba prefectures.
A magnitude 6.2 earthquake shook the Tokyo metropolitan area and surrounding regions in eastern Japan.
The Japan Meteorological Agency (JMA) assessed that there was no risk of a tsunami following the earthquake.
