Many practical startup ideas help members leverage their strengths, develop their family economies , and create jobs for other members. One of the outstanding products is the "Moc So" loofah project by Ms. Vo Thi Ngoc Thu (Thanh Khe Tay ward), which won first prize in the "Thanh Khe District Startup Ideas Competition 2024". The project's products stem from the idea of utilizing loofah fibers to produce environmentally friendly products for daily life, such as slippers, soap bags, dishwashing sponges, bath sponges, back scrubbers, back support belts, cotton pads, and pet toys. To produce a finished product, many steps are involved: cleaning the loofah fibers, molding them, and sewing them together to form individual products.
In addition, Ms. Thu spends time researching products and markets, introducing them at OCOP fairs, at several souvenir shops nationwide, and exporting them to some foreign markets such as Europe, the US, and Canada, thereby contributing to creating stable jobs for 6-7 local women.
To get her products to consumers, she expanded her market by reaching out to foreign customers interested in wholesale purchases and Vietnamese retailers wanting to export abroad. In addition, she listed her products on domestic e-commerce platforms, promoting them to distributors and dealers nationwide. Furthermore, she displayed her products at airports and souvenir shops to reach customers who appreciate environmentally friendly products.
To achieve today's success, Ms. Thu has made a relentless effort, not only developing the economy but also helping farmers sell their products (dried gourds), creating jobs for women. "From business idea to reality, there will be many difficulties, but as long as you have faith, dare to take risks, learn, and persevere, the path will always be open," Ms. Thu shared.
According to Do Thi Thu Hien, Vice President of the Thanh Khe District Women's Union, in recent times, to support women's economic development, the union has issued many documents to implement support for women's economic development; and conducted surveys on needs and ideas for starting businesses.
In recent years, the association has organized the "Innovative Startup Ideas" competition to allow women to test their skills in various fields. In 2024, the competition had 9 participating ideas, and the "Moc Xo" loofah project won first prize. From there, the district association selected 5 feasible new business startup ideas to participate in the Women's Entrepreneurship, Digital Transformation, and Green Environment Innovation Day organized by the City Women's Union; among them, the "Moc Xo" loofah project won second prize; the "Thao Moc Que" idea won third prize…
Furthermore, to effectively implement the project supporting women's entrepreneurship and the project supporting cooperatives managed by women, creating jobs for female workers by 2030, the Women's Union, in coordination with the District People's Committee, organized a networking event for female small business owners, entrepreneurs, and women involved in the economy in the district, with the participation of over 500 members. The event also established a new cooperative group for tourism products and services in Thanh Khe district, consisting of 8 members, and provided training on sales skills on social media and e-commerce channels.
Currently, there are 3 women's economic development support groups in the district. In addition, the district and wards have organized 4 training courses for 465 women entrepreneurs and small business owners on sales skills… “In the coming time, the district women's association will leverage resources from various programs and projects to support women in starting businesses, continue to promote product consumption connections, develop products for women, encourage women to participate in new-style cooperatives, and instill more confidence and motivation to help women rise up,” Ms. Hien said.
