The province currently has over 30,700 km of roads, 678 km of inland waterways, and nearly 113 km of railways with 13 stations on the Hanoi - Lao Cai line. Recognizing that transportation infrastructure plays a crucial role as a "lifeline" in socio -economic development, the province pays special attention to planning and investing in transportation infrastructure to create connections with Hanoi, the Northwest region, and the North Central region. By 2025, the province had implemented and completed inter-regional transportation projects such as: the road connecting the Ho Chi Minh Highway with National Highway 70B and National Highway 32C in Phu Tho province to Yen Bai province (formerly); the route connecting the Noi Bai - Lao Cai expressway with the Tuyen Quang - Phu Tho expressway; the road parallel to the Hanoi - Lao Cai railway; the Hoa Binh - Moc Chau expressway; the Hoa Binh - Hanoi regional link road and the Son La (Hoa Binh - Moc Chau) expressway...

The Ho Chi Minh Highway project, connecting with the Tuyen Quang – Phu Tho expressway, is being accelerated.
Along with implementing key projects, the province is focusing on improving the quality of existing transportation infrastructure. By 2025, the entire province will renovate and upgrade over 37 km of national highways, nearly 31 km of provincial roads, and take over the management and maintenance of nearly 400 km of national highways. The province also directs localities to decisively clear land for the implementation of transportation infrastructure construction projects; increase the rate of paved roads as well as pay attention to the renovation and upgrading of rural road systems.
In localities, the construction of transportation infrastructure has been given attention and implemented synchronously. Communes and wards have focused on mobilizing resources and integrating programs and projects to invest in upgrading and expanding rural roads, urban roads, bridges, and culverts, ensuring inter-regional connectivity and serving the transportation needs of the people. The implementation process has emphasized planning, land clearance, and quality control of construction, contributing to the gradual completion of the transportation network, promoting socio-economic development, and improving the lives of the people.
Making a breakthrough in transportation infrastructure, Dong Thanh commune has focused on land clearance to ensure 100% completion of projects for the Phu Tho - Tuyen Quang expressway and rural roads; thereby promoting the socio-economic development of the commune and attracting investment, achieving many important results. According to the Chairman of the People's Committee of Dong Thanh commune, Ha Truong Son, in 2025, Dong Thanh completed and exceeded many socio-economic targets. Total state budget revenue in the area is estimated at 95 billion VND, exceeding the annual plan. The commune has attracted 60 businesses to invest in the area, creating jobs for many local workers, contributing to raising the average income to over 56 million VND, and reducing the poverty rate to 2.94%... In the coming time, the commune will continue to focus on organizing the comprehensive planning of rural and inter-field transportation infrastructure systems, linked with the development of trade, services, industry, and small-scale handicrafts to promote socio-economic development and increase income for local people.”
The implemented and completed transportation infrastructure projects have affirmed the political determination, brought direct benefits to the people, and made an important contribution to the socio-economic development of the province. In 2025, the province's economy is expected to grow significantly, with an estimated annual increase of 10.52% compared to 2024; the economic structure will continue to shift towards increasing the proportion of industry and services. In particular, the proactive development of transportation infrastructure has paved the way for attracting investment, with total FDI reaching US$1.2 billion, a 38.5% increase compared to the previous year; domestic investment is estimated at nearly VND 220 trillion, 3.3 times higher than in 2024...
In 2026, the province will continue to direct all levels, sectors, and localities to accelerate the implementation and completion of key transportation projects such as: opening the CT03 expressway from Hoa Lac to Moc Chau; constructing the Viet Tri - Hoa Binh expressway; constructing the IC2 and IC5 interchanges on the Noi Bai - Lao Cai expressway with the ring roads in Vinh Phuc province, connecting to Hanoi via Van Phuc and Vinh Thinh bridges; constructing and completing parallel transportation axes to the Hanoi - Lao Cai railway from Vinh Yen to Hac Tri bridge; building bridges connecting the two banks of the Lo, Hong, and Da rivers... At the same time, it will coordinate the completion of the Lao Cai - Hanoi - Hai Phong high-speed railway line and invest in other important inter-regional transportation projects within the province...
In addition, localities continue to promote synchronized transportation planning; mobilize and effectively utilize capital sources to serve the development of transportation infrastructure; strengthen propaganda and mobilize people to participate in donating land, contributing labor, and protecting transportation projects; and focus on management, maintenance, and repair to ensure the long-term effectiveness of the projects...
