The Lo Te Route Upgrade Project

Báo Xây dựngBáo Xây dựng04/11/2024

The contractor constructing the Lo Te - Rach Soi route has recently experienced relatively smooth progress, as the traffic diversion sections for construction have been extended compared to the initial period of upgrading this road.

Extend the length of the traffic lane.

According to an investigation by reporters from Giao Thong Newspaper, the project to upgrade the road surface of the Lo Te - Rach Soi route has a total length of 51.5km. The construction unit is a joint venture between Hai Dang JSC and Saigon Transportation Construction Company.

Extending the traffic diversion strip facilitates the contractor's upgrade of the Lo Te - Rach Soi route.

Of that, Hai Dang Joint Stock Company is responsible for 80% of the work. The remaining length is being constructed by Saigon Transportation Construction Company.

The contractor is primarily responsible for tasks related to leveling the road surface, reinforcing the concrete pavement, expanding existing emergency stopping sections, and adding new emergency stopping sections.

A representative from the construction contractor stated that the project is currently in operation and has a median strip. Therefore, to complete the assigned work, the contractor had to organize traffic diversion on one side and use the other side for construction.

Previously, according to regulations, this traffic diversion had a maximum length of 300m. However, currently, after receiving approval from Road Management Area IV, a pilot construction section with a length of 1km is being implemented by the contractor.

Extending the length of the traffic diversion makes construction easier for the contractor, saving time on relocating the median and setting up the signaling system multiple times between tasks.

Workers are busy constructing the project site to speed up its progress.

At the same time, with the current construction organization method, the upgrading of the Lo Te - Rach Soi route is carried out continuously, and the contractor does not have to temporarily open the road on recycled scraped material, thus ensuring the quality when the project is completed and put into use as regulated.

"The project construction area is currently in the peak of the rainy season, and the construction units have been taking advantage of every day when the weather is favorable to carry out the work," the My Thuan Project Management Board (the investor) shared.

13 construction teams are working continuously on the site.

According to the My Thuan Project Management Board, the Lo Te - Rach Soi route was started on June 13, 2024, and is expected to be completed and put into use on September 30, 2025. However, the contractors have committed to the investor to complete the project 3 months earlier, meaning it will be put into use on June 30, 2025.

The contractor is taking advantage of all available conditions to organize the construction of the Lo Te - Rach Soi route.

Therefore, to meet the planned schedule, the contractor has increased manpower and equipment. Currently, there are 125 people on the construction site; including 18 technical staff, 47 drivers and machine operators, and 60 workers.

Simultaneously, the contractor also deployed 13 continuous construction teams. Specifically, the construction units organized three teams for scraping and recycling; two teams for asphalt concrete construction; three teams for cement-soil pile construction (along with two guide drills); three teams for emergency lane construction; and two teams for reinforcing the culvert transition slab.

The Lo Te - Rach Soi route is expected to be completed 3 months ahead of schedule.

"The cumulative output of construction work for the entire project to date has reached approximately 34 billion VND, equivalent to 6%."

"It is expected that by the end of November, the construction units will add more construction teams, accelerating the progress to ensure the project is completed before June 30, 2025, three months earlier than the signed contract," the My Thuan Project Management Board added.

Phase 1 of the Lo Te - Rach Soi route was put into operation in early 2021 with a length of 51.5km, 4 lanes, a roadbed width of 17m, and a road surface width of 15.5m. In the completed phase, the route will be upgraded to 6 lanes with a design speed of 100km/h.
This project has a total investment of VND 6,355 billion in phase 1, utilizing a loan of USD 200 million from the Korea Economic Development Cooperation Fund and over USD 94 million in counterpart funding from Vietnam.
After opening to traffic, the Lo Te - Rach Soi route will be monitored for subsidence for 1 to 2 years before additional asphalt concrete is added, and further upgrades will be implemented to meet expressway standards when the plan is in place.
According to the plan, the Lo Te - Rach Soi, Cao Lan - Lo Te, My An - Cao Lan routes, the N2 route, and the Chon Thanh - Duc Hoa route are part of the Western North-South Expressway.
In October 2022, the Ministry of Transport approved the investment project to upgrade the road surface of the Lo Te - Rach Soi route with a total investment of 750 billion VND.
