Kalbod Design, a studio in Tehran (Iran), introduces the Dubai medical island project with a prominent 1.000.000 square meter skyscraper in the center.
The new island, Dubai Healthcare City, is a multi-functional floating complex focused on providing high-quality healthcare services, integrating innovative technologies and sustainable design principles, while following the unique geographical and social conditions of the region. Design Boom reported on April 15.
Dubai Healthcare City features a crescent shape and incorporates Islamic geometric design elements. The island operates as a self-contained complex with its own underwater transportation system, residential areas with green trees for patients, educational and development facilities.
The entrance to the island is located underground, restricting cars from going up and moving on the island. Underwater transport infrastructure includes a monorail system and electric cars. Everywhere on the island there are stations to help with efficient travel. Meanwhile, pedestrians can move freely on the island.
The island consists of three main areas. The education and research quarters are in the middle, and the medical and housing zones surround the flanks. The suspended roads between the zones will bring in fresh air, and at the same time act as green space. Pedestrians can travel at different heights, observing the unique scenery of Dubai and the Persian Gulf.
The center of the island is marked by a skyscraper up to 1.000.000 m2, divided into two parts, including a 670.000 m2 base for educational activities and a 330.000 m2 upper crescent used as an exhibition hall, research and development room, science and technology park, library and digital achievement exhibition. In addition to the central building, Dubai Healthcare City will have 14 towers with medical functions and 24 hotels at both ends of the island. These structures are arranged symmetrically on either side of the main skyscraper.
According to Kalbod Design, every building has a terrace and a roof planted with a variety of plants, providing shade and natural ventilation. In addition, they also contribute to improving the air quality for Dubai.
