Tourism continues to grow.

Việt NamViệt Nam04/07/2024

Tourism in Vietnam in general, and Quang Ninh in particular, has made positive contributions to the socio -economic development of the country. Therefore, immediately after the Covid-19 pandemic, along with other localities nationwide, Quang Ninh promptly implemented many solutions to help the "smoke-free industry" recover and thrive again.

Immediately after the pandemic, Vietnam's tourism industry experienced rapid development in both scale and quality. International and domestic tourist numbers, as well as tourism revenue, continuously grew at a high rate, making a significant contribution to the growth of the country and its localities.

In the first half of this year, Vietnam's international visitor numbers are estimated at over 8.8 million, a 58.4% increase compared to the same period in 2023. Of these, 83.8% arrived by air, 14.3% by land, and 1.9% by sea. South Korea remains the largest source of visitors to Vietnam with 2.28 million people. China ranks second with nearly 1.9 million. The remaining top 10 markets include Japan, the United States, Australia, India, Malaysia, and Cambodia. The number of visitors in the first half of the year has already reached 50% of the annual target of 17-18 million.

This achievement is thanks to favorable visa policies, including extending the validity of electronic visas for foreign tourists from 30 days to 90 days, allowing multiple entries; and increasing the temporary stay at border gates for those entering under the unilateral visa exemption scheme from 15 days to 45 days. The application of multiple-entry electronic visas allows tourists to proactively plan their time and itineraries for sightseeing and relaxation, while also enhancing the competitiveness of Vietnamese tourism in attracting visitors from countries in the region and around the world .

In addition, many tourism promotion and marketing programs have been intensified by localities, attracting a significantly higher number of international tourists to Vietnam compared to the same period last year.

In Quang Ninh's tourism sector, the total number of tourists in the first six months of this year reached over 10.4 million, an increase of nearly 20% compared to the same period in 2023. Of these, international tourists accounted for approximately 2 million, a 2.4-fold increase compared to the same period. The top 10 international tourist markets for Quang Ninh include: China, South Korea, Taiwan, the United States, India, France, Australia, the United Kingdom, Germany, and Japan. Total tourism revenue reached over 22.2 trillion VND, an increase of over 30% compared to the same period.

This summer, Quang Ninh's tourism sector has seen a positive increase in international visitors since the pandemic. In particular, Ha Long Bay has seen a series of international cruise ship arrivals, providing positive signals for welcoming international tourists by sea. This is because the summer months are not typically the peak season for cruise ship tourists to Vietnam.

Recently, Ha Long International Cruise Port welcomed the Blue Dream Melody cruise ship carrying over 630 Chinese tourists. This was the first time this cruise ship visited Ha Long and will continue to operate its routes in the coming months. Previously, Ha Long welcomed the luxury cruise ship The World, registered in the US, carrying over 170 tourists, mostly millionaires and billionaires from the US and Europe.

With its diverse range of tourism experiences and services, along with a modern and integrated transportation infrastructure including roads, seaports, and airports, and especially a dedicated international cruise port, Quang Ninh has a significant advantage in attracting international tourists, particularly in developing international cruise tourism. Leveraging these advantages, from the beginning of the year until now, Quang Ninh has welcomed 40,000 international tourists from cruise lines, including luxury and high-end cruise ships from Europe and America.

To maintain tourism growth, Quang Ninh is proactively innovating its tourism products, developing and introducing many new ones, improving service quality, strengthening the tourism business environment, and intensifying promotion and marketing efforts to strongly attract tourists. To date, Quang Ninh has launched 23 out of a total of 62 new tourism products planned since the beginning of the year, offering unique and distinctive experiences for both domestic and international tourists.

Quang Ninh aims to attract at least 17 million tourists in 2024, including 3 million international visitors. With positive signs of tourism growth, this year's target is entirely achievable.
