Tourists' New Year's journey begins with unique cultural experiences in Mu Cang Chai commune - a region famous for its majestic natural landscapes and the distinctive culture of the Mong ethnic group.
In the majestic highlands, the 2026 Hmong Flute Festival and To Day Flower Festival created a vibrant atmosphere with the pink blossoms of wild peach trees on the hillsides blending with the sounds of flutes and drums. Visitors not only admired the spring scenery but also directly participated in traditional activities such as spinning tops, painting patterns with beeswax, and enjoying local cuisine . These cultural values, "told" through authentic experiences, became a highlight that captivated tourists.
Mr. Le Trung Kien (Nghia Lo ward, Lao Cai province) shared: I started photographing the "Thớ dày" flower about a decade ago, but each season brings more enjoyment. This year, I've found the perfect angle and will introduce this beautiful flower to my friends and tourists.
In Lao Cai ward, the atmosphere for welcoming tourists was also impressive. Lao Cai train station organized a friendly and professional welcome for the first group of tourists arriving by rail, creating a positive impression on visitors, especially international tourists.
According to Mr. Nguyen Van Nhat, Chairman of the People's Committee of Lao Cai Ward, in 2026, the ward has developed a detailed plan with a specific roadmap, striving to achieve the goal of attracting approximately 1.6 - 2 million visitors to Lao Cai Ward.
The focal point for tourists during the New Year's holiday is the Sa Pa National Tourist Area. With its unique climate, captivating natural landscapes, and increasingly sophisticated service system, it remains a top choice for many visitors. Sa Pa truly "explodes" in the early days of the year thanks to a series of large-scale events such as the "Sa Pa - The Quintessence of Culture" cultural space, culinary record-breaking activities, and a New Year's Eve countdown fireworks display.

The 2026 New Year's holiday saw impressive growth in the tourism industry across the province.

Notably, along with the increase in tourist numbers, state management of tourism has been implemented synchronously and effectively. Thanks to the decisive direction of the Provincial People's Committee, tourism activities have taken place safely and smoothly; accommodation and tourism service establishments strictly comply with regulations on price listing, preventing price gouging, harassment, or negative behaviors that affect the image of the destination. A civilized and friendly tourism environment continues to be an important factor contributing to increased tourist satisfaction.
The impressive results during the New Year holiday are considered an important foundation for Lao Cai tourism to confidently enter the new year with higher goals: striving to welcome more than 11 million visitors in 2026, including 1.5 million international visitors, and achieving tourism revenue of 51,000 billion VND.
Mr. Tran Son Binh, Deputy Director of the Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism, affirmed that with thorough preparation and the efforts of the business community, the tourism industry is confident in achieving and exceeding the set targets. These positive signs at the beginning of the year are creating important momentum for the successful and sustainable development of tourism in Lao Cai.

With thorough preparation, a clear development strategy, and effective utilization of its unique climate and landscape advantages, Lao Cai's tourism sector is showing promising signs of improvement. The results achieved in the early days of the year are not only a bright start but also create significant momentum, strengthening confidence for the local tourism industry to achieve successful and sustainable development in 2026.
