Bringing policies closer to the Cham people.

In the final days of the year, people from Nhon Hoi commune attended a conference on ethnic policies at the Bung Lon hamlet's cultural center. This activity, organized by the Department of Ethnic Minorities and Religion, aimed to bring the Party's guidelines and the State's policies and laws to the Cham people.

From early morning, the Cham people gathered in large numbers, women in vibrant traditional costumes, and elderly people leaning on their canes, waiting for the speakers to share their insights. The conference atmosphere was warm and friendly, reflecting the openness of the community. At the conference, the working group from the Department of Ethnic Minorities and Religion disseminated many important contents, including: ethnic policies; citizens' rights and obligations; social welfare policies; security and order maintenance; and projects and sub-projects under the national target program for socio -economic development in ethnic minority and mountainous areas. The speakers' practical stories and approachable presentation style made the information easy for the people to understand and remember. Ms. Ro Ky Giah shared: “Listening to the officials, I realized how important it is to understand policies correctly. My family will remind our children and grandchildren to stay away from social vices and live better lives.”

Bung Lon Hamlet currently has 789 households, of which the Cham people account for 60.8%, mainly engaged in trade and agricultural production. Mr. Quach Van Ne, Head of Bung Lon Hamlet, said: “The organization of the propaganda conference by the Department of Ethnic Minorities and Religion is a meaningful activity that contributes to bringing policies and guidelines closer to the Cham people. At the conference, the people had the opportunity to exchange information they didn't know or understand, and all their questions were answered frankly and clearly by the department's leaders.”

Nhon Hoi, Vinh Hau, and Chau Phong are communes with a large Cham population. Strengthening propaganda, especially regarding ethnic policies and the prevention of social evils, is becoming increasingly necessary and appropriate to the practical needs. From the beginning of 2025 to the present, the Department of Ethnic Minorities and Religions has organized 22 community capacity-building conferences; of which, 3 conferences were held in communes with a large Cham population. Mr. Gosaly, a respected figure in Chau Phong commune, shared: “The Cham people need to know and understand to live better lives, and for their children to live, study, and act in accordance with the law. I hope the Department of Ethnic Minorities and Religions will hold more such propaganda conferences in the Cham community areas.”

The organization of conferences aimed at implementing sub-project 4 of Project 5, which focuses on capacity building for communities and program implementation staff at all levels, under the national target program for socio-economic development in ethnic minority and mountainous areas in 2025, has yielded positive results. The proactive approach and close engagement of the Department of Ethnic Minorities and Religions have created a positive effect, helping policies resonate with the people and contributing to building a united, civilized, and sustainably developing Cham community. Deputy Director of the Department of Ethnic Minorities and Religions, Danh Tha, stated: “Direct communication helps the Cham people understand and grasp policies correctly, thereby enhancing their role in building national unity, maintaining security and order, and participating in the socio-economic development of the locality. This is also an opportunity for the unit to understand the concerns and promptly address difficulties, creating consensus within the community.”
