Recently, the " traditional dish " of braised mackerel from Ba Ba Hoi in Quang Nam officially exported its first shipment to the US, surprising even the brand owner.

Exporting braised mackerel, Quang noodles, cassava pho...

Ms. Huynh Thi Thu Thuy, owner of the Ba Ba Hoi braised mackerel brand, said that the opportunity arose from a meeting with the Quang Nam Hometown Association in Ho Chi Minh City. "I went with the group to Ho Chi Minh City to introduce my bakery and other local specialties, and coincidentally met a company specializing in distributing Vietnamese specialties to the US. Through the introduction, the distributor was immediately impressed and expressed interest in exploring cooperation," Ms. Thuy recounted.

Just a few weeks later, after going to Quang Nam to conduct on-site inspections and connect with relevant units to verify the source, quality, and standards of the goods, a preliminary contract was signed between the distributor and Ms. Thuy's establishment. On the morning of July 27th, a container full of finished braised mackerel from Quang Nam was brought to Ho Chi Minh City for customs clearance to the United States.

In Phuong Hoa Tay neighborhood (Hoa Thuan ward, Tam Ky city ), a famous Quang Nam noodle-making village, nearly 4 tons of Quang Nam noodles were recently shipped to South Korea. This order was placed by a partner with the noodle factory of Ms. Phan Thi Hue.

Ms. Hue is still thrilled when she recalls the moment a container full of her dried Quang noodles was picked up by her partner and transported away. "From the time I placed the order to the time they picked it up, it was only a short time. I've been running a factory and hiring workers, selling my products all over the country and in many supermarkets, but I never thought one day I would get to go to South Korea," Ms. Hue said.

In Que Son, cassava noodles have long been elevated by the owner of a business, who invested in a production line to export them to Australia and Thailand. Cassava noodles (made from cassava root) are a familiar dish, a "hunger-fighting" food for people in the countryside, but thanks to upgrading their production, networking, and adhering to standards, they have become a high-value product.

Provincial leaders go to introduce local specialties.

Many businesses and production facilities of traditional specialty goods in Quang Nam province have stated that in their efforts to bring their products further afield, they have always received support and favorable conditions from the local government.

Ms. Huynh Thi Thu Thuy stated that the leaders of Quang Nam province have long acted as "facilitators" for production facilities, connecting them with distributors and manufacturers. This is done through industrial promotion programs, trade promotion conferences, and forums. The province also has Zalo groups dedicated to exchanging information and promoting business, such as the Creative Startup Zalo group and the Three Regions Specialty Products Zalo group.

"Through these forums, partners get to know us and reach out to us. The province also provides support in terms of policy, branding, and guidance for production facilities to improve their image and standards. In addition, at hometown associations, during trips to other provinces to meet with people from Quang Nam who are working away from home, provincial leaders also invite businesses to come along, where they introduce their goods, thus providing an additional channel for promotion," Ms. Thuy said.

According to Pham Ngoc Sinh, Deputy Director of the Quang Nam Department of Science and Technology, Quang Nam has many specialties that can become high-value commercial products such as cassava noodles, spring rolls, traditional fish sauce, Quang noodles, etc.

"To take local specialties further, each product must truly convey emotion along with professional and sophisticated design. Businesses are also urgently protecting intellectual property and improving product quality to meet requirements, upgrading their product supply capacity to keep up with the distribution network of the trade, avoiding 'disruptions' in the supply chain when the market needs it," Mr. Sinh said.

Mr. Ho Quang Buu, Vice Chairman of the Quang Nam Provincial People's Committee, said that supporting and connecting businesses, craft villages, and production facility owners to find business opportunities is considered a task of the provincial leadership and heads of departments and agencies. Currently, Quang Nam has built a widespread network, turning many products from rural areas into high-value goods on the market, and many items have been exported.

"Every time we go out of the province to meet with partners and large businesses, we always take the opportunity to connect and invite businesses to Quang Nam to explore business opportunities. Quang Nam is a place with many unique products and famous specialties . This is a great resource, and with the right direction and appropriate promotion, it will help people increase their income and improve their lives," Mr. Buu said.
