Bringing art closer to the public.

The "Her" art event series took place in Hanoi from May 10th to 31st at the Aqua Art Center, featuring various activities that opened up stories, discoveries , and interesting perspectives on the image of women through visual arts. The series attracted the participation of many researchers and artists such as journalist Yen Khuong, writer Truong Quy, businesswoman Ngo Thuy Linh, the Fourteen Artists group, along with a large number of art lovers and students from art schools.

The art talk, centered around the theme of the "Her" exhibition series, does not aim to define women, nor does it focus on images or stereotypes of the female gender, but rather to explore various states of feeling. Speakers and artists engage in conversations and interactions with the audience, addressing questions about femininity in painting, the theme of women, and inspiration for art…

Sharing his thoughts during the conversation, writer and researcher Truong Quy commented that the way the artists here work shows the public that the works are born from real sketches, demonstrating the seriousness of professional artists, which is highly commendable in today's digital age where technology is dominant.

Businesswoman Ngo Thuy Linh shared that she felt a sense of gentleness and sweetness through the two paintings by female artist Duong Thi Ngoc Lua displayed at "Her". The fact that women can feel and recognize themselves through these artworks is a success for both the artists and the exhibition.

A female visitor to the exhibition also shared her feelings: “In such a beautiful art space, the exhibition combined with interactive workshops created a complete and fulfilling whole. 'Her' showed that art lovers don't need to understand art; they can come to find a place for their emotions to take refuge. With my feminine intuition, I observed the women viewing the paintings and noticed that exhibitions about women are places where women can temporarily escape the busyness, the daily chores, the worries of husbands and children, the traffic jams on the way home from work, or the hustle and bustle of life… where they can have a moment to confront their own femininity, where they can be sad, happy, angry… without needing to explain.”

When I encountered "Her," I no longer asked, "What does this painting depict?" Instead, the question arose: "To achieve this state, what story does the painting or the woman in the painting tell? Or, what story did the artist witness?" Perhaps the artist's story is different from the model's story, different from the viewer's story, but that's what keeps me re-engaging with these paintings."

The artists also shared about their artistic journeys and activities, as well as ideas for bringing art closer to the general public.

Speaking about her artistic journey, painter Duong Thi Ngoc Lua shared that she only recently returned to painting, and working with the Fourteen Artists group has given her more motivation to create. The works she brought to the exhibition are her personal feelings and reflections.

Sharing his experience at the workshop, artist Nguyen Hong Tuan said that artists encounter ideas and stories the moment they encounter a model and immediately put pen to paper – quickly sketching to capture the form and define the composition. The artwork will be born at some point from these sketches. Regular art practice activities and workshops within the framework of this exhibition, such as “Her Flow,” “Her Feel,” and “Her Form,” are ways to help artists begin creating their works.

Artist Nguyen Thinh, on the other hand, passionately offered his opinion on how to bring art closer to the public. He believes that organizing workshops where artists can sketch and paint artworks is a very direct way to bring art to the public, helping them understand and appreciate art more. “Organizations like the ‘Her’ exhibition are rare and need to expand their reach and gain more support,” said artist Nguyen Thinh.
