As soon as the rice ripens, harvest it immediately.
At this time, the main rice crop has begun to ripen, and in some localities that planted early such as Son Duong, Truong Sinh, Yen Nguyen, Chiem Hoa, Lam Binh, Bac Quang, Vi Xuyen… people are taking advantage of the time to urgently harvest in order to speed up the land preparation for the next crop within the best time frame.
In the fields of Khuon Khoai village, Yen Nguyen commune, at this time of year, the laughter and chatter of farmers fill the air, along with the sound of combine harvesters racing against time to harvest the spring rice crop, quickly freeing up the land for planting the summer crop. The joy of a bountiful harvest is clearly visible on the faces and smiles of the farmers.

Transporting sacks of rice home, filled with the joy of a bountiful harvest, Ms. Hoang Thi Tho excitedly shared that instead of planting many different rice varieties like in previous years, this spring her family focused on planting only the Thai Binh BC15 variety, so the rice ripened at the same time. Her family has 6 sao (approximately 0.6 hectares) of spring rice that ripened simultaneously, making it very convenient to rent a combine harvester at a reasonable cost, resulting in a quick harvest, less labor, and reduced losses.
In several communes such as Bac Quang, Tan Quang, Hung An, Lien Hiep, Dong Yen, Binh Xa, Tan An, Kim Binh, Hung Loi, Tan Thanh, etc., the spring rice harvest is quite bustling. Fields of rice, heavy with grain and still green leaves, are being harvested urgently by the people. This spring, Lien Hiep commune planted nearly 447 hectares, reaching 102% of the plan. Of that, more than 358 hectares were early spring rice.
Comrade Ha Manh Thang, Chairman of the People's Committee of Lien Hiep commune, said: Thanks to the selection of suitable varieties and the application of advanced techniques in production, the early rice crop is growing well and is currently entering the harvesting period, with an estimated yield of 60 quintals/hectare. However, due to the unpredictable weather, the commune has directed the villages to mobilize maximum manpower and resources to speed up the rice harvest. To date, farmers have harvested about over 80% of the rice area and are immediately preparing the land after harvesting.
According to the Department of Agriculture and Environment, this year's spring crop saw concentrated planting, and pest and disease forecasting was very good. However, this spring season experienced the most unfavorable weather in history, with little rain during the four months of production, affecting the growth and development of crops, especially rice. Furthermore, during the rice heading stage, heavy rains accompanied by thunderstorms and strong winds caused significant damage to rice crops in several regions and localities.
Get started on crop production right away!
Alongside the spring harvest, the agricultural sector is directing localities to disseminate information and encourage people to quickly prepare the land and ensure sufficient fertilizers and other supplies for the summer crop production according to the best time frame.
In some localities where only one crop can be grown per year on terraced fields, such as Hong Thai, Thong Nguyen, and Hoang Su Phi communes, people are accelerating land preparation to sow the next crop. Mr. Dang Van Tai, from Khau Trang village, said that because it's terraced land, only one crop can be grown per year. He has to take advantage of rainwater, working from morning till night to prepare the land with his machinery. Thanks to this, his family has completed land preparation on nearly 3,000 square meters. Along with land preparation, the family is actively cleaning the fields and weeding to limit pests and diseases.
According to Ms. Mai Thi Hoan, Deputy Director of the Department of Agriculture and Environment, the weather in 2026 is expected to remain complex, with hot weather appearing earlier, lasting longer, and being more intense than the average of previous years. In addition, the risk of localized heavy rain, thunderstorms, lightning, and hail remains, directly affecting agricultural production. To mitigate the impact of extreme weather, localities need to arrange cropping patterns flexibly, adapting to actual conditions.
For rice cultivation, the goal is to have early-season rice varieties account for 50% or more of the total area to avoid the impact of late-season weather and create favorable conditions for winter crop production. The agricultural sector continues to orient its crop structure towards improving productivity, quality, and economic value. It encourages the expansion of high-quality rice varieties, specialty rice, and rice grown according to VietGAP and organic standards; and strengthens the application of advanced technical measures to improve production efficiency, reduce input costs, and protect the environment.
