Le Quy Don High School for the Gifted, Vung Tau City, has just organized the program "Under the Stage Lights" to transform literary works into stage plays. From the program, many questions about the teaching and learning of the subject of Literature were raised.
Dramatizing literary works innovates teaching and learning methods of Literature. |
After more than a month of brainstorming and practicing, with the guidance of teachers and the students' attitude and respect for literary works, the program "Under the Stage Lights" took place with 4 plays, including: "The Boat Out at Sea", "Tam Cam", "The Soul of Truong Ba - The Butcher's Skin" and "The Ivory Comb".
Ms. Nguyen Thi Kim Dung, a Literature teacher at Le Quy Don High School for the Gifted, said that dramatizing literary works is not only a project to serve the teaching and learning of Literature but also aims to train students in event organization and teamwork skills.
“To preserve traditional forms, please do not just “talk”, do not just propagate by word of mouth. Teachers should give students the opportunity to “live” with literature and art, they will find a way to preserve traditions in a smart and creative way” - Ms. Kim Dung shared.
Pham Tien Son, a student at Le Quy Don High School for the Gifted, said: “On stage, every moment is unique, so I really enjoy the play. Dramatizing a literary work has given me the opportunity to visualize the character in the play more clearly.”
The form of dramatizing literary works has been experimented in many places with different scales. However, in Ba Ria - Vung Tau province, this is the first time the program has been organized.
Literature teachers at the school have combined literary knowledge and practice for students through various projects. Specifically, before that, students were asked to “Read, write, and introduce a collection of poems, a collection of short stories, or a novel”, then post their introductions on social media platforms.
The large-scale “Under the Spotlight” program, which aims to dramatize literary works, is the second project at this school.
Sharing about the process of teaching and learning the Literature subject, Ms. Hoang Dao Ngoc Trinh, a Literature teacher, said: "Through the subjects, we realize that Literature is no longer too strange to students but has been received by them in a unique and creative way."
As someone who has experienced the specialized lessons at school, Nguyen Viet Dung said: “This novelty has inspired a lot of interest in learning Literature for me and my friends. We can actively receive knowledge, instead of just passively listening and copying, absorbing knowledge more easily.”
