Resolution 68-NQ/TW dated May 4, 2025, of the Politburo on the development of the private economy affirms that, along with the state economy, the collective economy and the private economy are the three pillars of the national economy. The collective economic sector in general, and the collective economy of Can Tho in particular, has been given further impetus to transform and break through. With new development space from the administrative boundary merger, cooperatives and cooperative groups have a "double impetus" to transform, keep pace with the trend of modern agriculture, confidently export Can Tho's distinctive agricultural products, become a solid support for farmers, and contribute to building an increasingly prosperous and beautiful homeland.

According to Mr. Le Minh Phuong, Vice Chairman of the Can Tho City Cooperative Union, Resolution 68-NQ/TW has brought new vitality to cooperatives in the new development phase, especially after the city's merger. As the "bottlenecks" in mechanisms are gradually removed, the development space is increasingly expanding, and many cooperatives in Can Tho City have proactively innovated their production thinking, enhanced the value of characteristic agricultural products, and improved the lives of farmers, making positive contributions to the local socio -economic development.

Currently, the city has 745 cooperatives and 8 cooperative federations operating in various fields such as agriculture , fisheries, trade and services, and construction, with a scale 2.5 times larger than before. Simultaneously, support policies regarding capital, digital transformation, application of science and technology, brand building, and trade promotion have been implemented synchronously, creating conditions for cooperatives to enhance their competitiveness and expand production linkages along sustainable value chains.

Keeping pace with the development of new trends, many cooperatives in Can Tho City have boldly invested in high technology, applying smart agriculture and digital agriculture, gradually building large-scale specialized production areas. Simultaneously, they are combining this with the development of planting area codes, traceability systems, and the application of high technology in production… As a result, many cooperatives have products meeting GAP, organic, and OCOP standards; gradually bringing the local specialty agricultural products to conquer domestic and international markets, contributing to improving farmers' income and living standards.

One of the outstanding examples of the collective economic sector in Can Tho is the Nhat Tam Production and Trading Cooperative (Nhat Tam Cooperative) in Ninh Kieu ward. From a small production facility, the cooperative has grown into a reputable and well-known entity in the field of seafood production and processing, supplying both the domestic and export markets, with annual revenue reaching hundreds of billions of VND. The cooperative provides stable employment for over 155 local workers, with an average income of over 8 million VND per person per month, contributing to social welfare in the locality.

Regarding the process of building the brand and becoming one of the "Cooperative Stars of 2025," Mr. Nguyen Minh Dat, Deputy Director of Nhat Tam Cooperative, shared: "Achieving the results we have today is the culmination of the cooperative's persistent efforts. From establishing six aquaculture farming areas that meet VietGAP standards, with a total area of over 55 hectares, to investing in internationally standardized workshops and cold storage facilities, and applying HACCP procedures in preliminary processing, processing, and product preservation."

Currently, Nhat Tam Cooperative has the capacity to supply more than 40 processed seafood products, with a total output of over 3,000 tons per year, of which nearly 40% is exported to Japan, Canada, Australia, etc. The cooperative's revenue in 2025 is estimated to reach over 260 billion VND. Thanks to its efforts in maintaining its reputation and brand, coupled with improving the lives of its members and employees, Nhat Tam Cooperative was honored last year as a "Cooperative Star," ranking among the top 100 outstanding cooperatives nationwide.

In the field of fruit production, the Thoi Hung Fruit Cooperative in Phong Dien commune is a vivid example of the economic effectiveness of cooperation in Can Tho City. From small, fragmented orchards, the cooperative has brought together farmers and guided them in growing star apples according to safe production processes, gradually building a brand in the market. This effort has been recognized when the cooperative's pink butter star apple product has been selected by many export businesses for distribution, and this is the second year that the cooperative's star apples have been officially exported to the European market. Mr. Ho Minh Chien, Director of the cooperative, said: The cooperative currently has 19 members, cultivating more than 12.9 hectares of pink butter star apples and purple star apples according to safe production processes, meeting strict standards for quality, quarantine, and food safety, and is eligible for export to Europe.

Mr. Ho Minh Chien, Director of Thoi Hung Fruit Cooperative, introduced star apples grown according to GAP standards, meeting export requirements.

With the product gaining popularity in the domestic market and achieving successful exports, farmers in the Thoi Hung fruit cooperative are increasingly confident in applying good cultivation techniques, such as bagging the fruit with two layers of cloth and foam bags from the young stage to ensure that the harvested star apples meet quality standards and are "delicious, true to the countryside" as required by businesses. The cooperative also flexibly guides farmers to harvest in a staggered manner, from October to May of the following year, to ensure a stable supply and sufficient quantity to meet the requirements of customers and export businesses. With this systematic approach, each hectare of star apple trees has brought in an income of 400-600 million VND/year for farmers in the cooperative. From there, farmers are even more confident in growing star apples according to GAP standards to sell at higher prices.

Based on the guidelines of Resolution 68-NQ/TW, Mr. Le Minh Phuong affirmed that the Can Tho City Cooperative Alliance will focus its resources on effectively advising and supporting cooperatives to develop in line with new trends; and at the same time, coordinate with relevant sectors and levels to support cooperatives in improving their management capacity, applying science and technology, and building exemplary cooperative models capable of participating in large value chains…

With a favorable policy foundation, innovative thinking from cooperatives, and the synchronized involvement of all levels and sectors, the collective and cooperative economic sector in Can Tho City expects to break through and transform its development towards sustainability and modernity, enabling it to participate in larger "playing fields"...
