Currently, infrastructure projects are continuing to be implemented, including a connecting road from the Bien Hoa - Vung Tau expressway to the Vung Tau area and an elevated road along National Highway 51 invested by Dong Nai City, connecting to the starting point of the expressway. According to transportation experts, when these projects are completed, travel from the eastern coastal area to Dong Nai and the center of Ho Chi Minh City will be more convenient.
On National Highway 51, after nearly half a year of implementing the new lane separation plan, this route has also seen positive changes in traffic safety and congestion. According to statistics, from November 17, 2025 to April 8, 2026, the number of traffic accidents on National Highway 51 decreased by 64%, the number of deaths decreased by 60%, and the number of injuries decreased by 64% compared to the same period. This result shows the initial effectiveness of the new traffic lane separation plan and also reflects the positive impact of putting the Bien Hoa - Vung Tau expressway into operation. Currently, most passenger cars have switched to using the expressway, while trucks and container vehicles still mainly use National Highway 51.
A positive sign for the traffic congestion relief problem on National Highway 51 is the Phuoc An Bridge, a key transportation project spanning the Thi Vai River, connecting Ho Chi Minh City with Dong Nai . According to the investor, the project, with a total capital of nearly 4,900 billion VND, is expected to have its main bridge completed in June 2026 and put into operation from September 2026, about 8 months ahead of the original plan.
The opening of the Phuoc An Bridge will significantly shorten the transportation distance for goods from the Cai Mep - Thi Vai port cluster to the southwestern provinces, instead of relying mainly on National Highway 51 as is currently the case. Furthermore, the project is a crucial link in the inter-regional connectivity network, directly connecting to the Bien Hoa - Vung Tau expressway, Long Thanh International Airport, and strategic ring roads.
Meanwhile, the DT994 coastal road project, nearly 77km long, connecting Ho Chi Minh City with Lam Dong province via the Vung Tau - Binh Chau coastal axis, is also being accelerated. Many items have been completed or are entering the final stages, aiming for the road to be open in the first quarter of 2027, opening up more development space for tourism, logistics, and the marine economy of the entire region.
Another transportation project that is also receiving much anticipation is the Long Thanh - Ho Tram expressway, which will create a new impetus for Ho Tram, Binh Chau, and the chain of coastal tourist cities with much untapped potential in the eastern part of the city.
