Coach Enrique reacted strongly to concerns about Ousmane Dembele's form. |
“My goal as a coach is to help the players reach their best form,” Enrique told RMC Sports . “Sometimes you (journalists) make up absurd stories; just ask Ousmane directly. Everyone manages their emotions in the best way they can.”
The PSG coach's statement comes after PSG were held to a 1-1 draw by Nantes on April 23rd in their midweek Ligue 1 match. Dembele started the game at Nantes' stadium but was substituted after about an hour of play.
The French player did not score, only had one shot on target and touched the ball twice in Nantes' penalty area during his time on the pitch. French media subsequently expressed concern about Dembele's form, suggesting the player was experiencing psychological issues.
This was Dembele's fourth consecutive game without scoring, raising concerns ahead of the clash with Arsenal. However, coach Enrique insisted he was not worried about his star player.
"Whether a player feels disappointed after the match is not important to me. Playing away is always difficult, especially in a stadium like Nantes, with its fantastic atmosphere. Now, the team needs to rest and focus on the match at the weekend, because that will be a completely different game," he emphasized.
Dembele has been a key player for PSG this season. He has scored 32 goals and provided 11 assists in all competitions, helping PSG pull away from their rivals in the Ligue 1 title race. However, Dembele's dip in form in April has caused considerable concern among PSG fans.
