Enzo Fernandez's future is unpredictable. |
In the early hours of March 18th, Chelsea lost 0-3 at home to PSG, thus being eliminated with an aggregate score of 2-5 in the Champions League round of 16. Responding to the media after the match about his future, Fernandez briefly stated: "There are 8 games left and the FA Cup. After that, we'll see." This sparked much speculation.
At the same time, British media revealed that Fernandez was reportedly seriously considering leaving Stamford Bridge in the summer 2026 transfer window. Real Madrid and PSG were both interested in signing him to add creativity to their midfield.
Joining Chelsea for a record fee of £106.8 million, Fernandez has been a key player this season. With Reece James absent, he was given the captain's armband and contributed 12 goals and 6 assists in 45 games – impressive figures in a turbulent season.
Fernandez's frustration was also evident, especially after goalkeeper Filip Jorgensen's mistake in the first leg. However, coach Liam Rosenior defended his player, comparing the midfielder's fighting spirit to that of legendary Roy Keane.
When asked about Fernandez's controversial statements, manager Rosenior declined to elaborate: "I haven't looked into it specifically. Right now, the most important thing is to prepare for the Everton game."
Previously, Fernandez played a major role in helping Chelsea win the Europa Conference League and the FIFA Club World Cup, but the London team has been unable to maintain that momentum. Currently, they are struggling in the race for the top four and the FA Cup is their only clear chance to win a trophy.
