Customers and people need to be vigilant against strange calls.

Recently, a resident in Ho Chi Minh City was tricked by a bad guy impersonating an electricity employee into installing EVNSPC's customer care application, stealing more than 2.25 billion VND.

Specifically, in early August 2025, Mr. Le Van T. (living in Ho Chi Minh City) received a call from a strange phone number from a person claiming to be an electricity employee, informing him that he had not paid the fee. This person instructed Mr. T. to install the EVNSPC customer care application. After installing, he was asked to authenticate his face. However, after authenticating his face, Mr. T. lost 2.25 billion VND in his account.

After receiving Mr. T's report, the Criminal Police Department, Ho Chi Minh City Police Department investigated and detained Le Dinh Thi (23 years old, residing in An Hoi Dong Ward, Ho Chi Minh City). Thi confessed that he was lured by strangers to do "easy work with high salary" in the border area and promised an income of 1,200 USD/month. Thi was assigned to make phone calls pretending to be electricity employees to lure others to install fake applications, in order to defraud and appropriate property.

The Criminal Police Department, Ho Chi Minh City Police is expanding the investigation of the above case.

EVNSPC said that recently, the situation of impersonating electricity industry employees to commit fraud has become more complicated, causing significant damage to the people. Fraudsters are increasingly sophisticated, using many different tricks to approach and appropriate the assets of electricity customers.

EVNSPC and its member units do not collect electricity bills via Zalo and SMS messages.

EVNSPC has continuously warned and advised customers through newspapers, radio, social media channels; through EVN and EVNSPC's communication channels such as website, fanpage, Tiktok, Youtube; through customer care app, Zalo; and at the same time, directly propagated to people and customers through meetings on safe and economical electricity use, customer conferences...

EVNSPC said that when installing the EVNSPC customer service app, customers should access the App Store (iOS) or CH Play (Android), search for the keyword EVNSPC customer service; download and install the app. Then, register/log in using the phone number registered for the electricity purchase contract or the account that the customer created before. The EVNSPC customer service app does not require customers to authenticate their face or fingerprint.

To ensure safety, EVNSPC recommends that customers be vigilant when receiving strange calls/messages. Absolutely do not provide personal information, such as phone number, ID card, bank account via phone, Zalo, SMS, or websites of unknown origin. Absolutely do not access links, do not download applications of unknown origin sent by strangers.

When receiving information about urgent electricity payment requests or suspected fraudulent messages, customers should immediately contact the electricity company/power company in the management area; 24/7 online customer service hotline: 19001006, 19009000... to verify the information.

When becoming a victim of fraud, customers need to immediately report to the police for timely support and resolution.
