Fabregas chose to stay at Como. |
In an interview on June 4th, Fabregas shared: "I started at Como with ambitions for a long-term project. I didn't want to commit my career to a club that only had a plan for one or two years, and then everything would end."
The former Spanish star has faith in Como's project and will not be leaving this summer. Fabregas also stated that Como's president has created an ideal working environment, allowing him to manage the club as he wishes.
Como chairman Mirwan Suwarso also stated: “We have a long-term project and Fabregas is an important part of that project. He will not be leaving the club.”
Fabregas's statement, along with President Como's, put an end to Inter Milan's ambitions. The Serie A champions recently parted ways with Simone Inzaghi and saw Fabregas as the ideal replacement. Inter highly valued Fabregas's coaching abilities, as he transformed Como into a team with a distinctive playing style and a clear development plan.
Under Fabregas's leadership, Como returned to Serie A after a 21-year absence. In their first season in Italy's top football league, the club finished 10th overall, 18 points clear of the relegation zone. Como also ended the season with six consecutive wins in their last eight matches.
Gazzetta reports that Inter have shifted their focus to other targets such as Patrick Vieira (Genoa's coach) and Christian Chivu, who previously coached Inter's youth team and now manages Parma. Additionally, Roberto de Zerbi of Marseille is also on Inter's radar.
