The issue of being unable to send photos via Messenger is occurring on both the mobile app and the web platform on computers. This phenomenon is not reported uniformly, with a small number of users reporting that they can send photos to friends, but this varies from time to time and the reason is unclear.
On technology discussion groups, many people also reported the issue. Downdetector, a global online website error reporting site, reported Messenger errors from users starting around 4 PM (Vietnam time) and "skyrocketing" about an hour later. It was noted that approximately 75% of users experienced problems sending messages as described, 19% encountered errors on the app, and 7% on the website.
Messenger has been experiencing issues preventing the sending of photos since the afternoon of July 7th.
The issue occurred globally. Messenger users in the US, UK, and Asia were most affected. Even attempts to uninstall and reinstall the app, clear browser cache, or restart their devices did not resolve the problem.
Currently, Meta—the parent company that owns both Messenger and Facebook—has not issued any comment or information regarding the incident.
Recently, Facebook and Messenger apps have been experiencing frequent errors, especially after Meta made feature adjustments. Messenger alone has experienced two outages in the last 30 days. On June 16th, users were unable to view newly received messages. In May, the platform crashed globally, and just two days later, it experienced another error resulting in the loss of shared files. In March and April, Messenger also experienced messaging-related errors and unexplained account suspensions.
Messenger experienced errors just one day after Meta announced its new app, Threads, which is seen as a rival to Twitter, integrating the interface of Instagram (Meta) and the social network with the blue bird logo of billionaire Elon Musk.
