iPhones are experiencing strange issues when sending text messages to Android phones.

According to AppleInsider , some iPhone users have shared on social media to confirm that their devices are experiencing a strange bug. Specifically, when they try to text Android users, the iPhone adds a "+" symbol to the beginning of the phone number. This addition forces the iPhone to recognize the number as an international number even when it isn't. For example, a phone number that is normally 858-867-5xxx is displayed on an iPhone as +85 88675xxx.

Suddenly, a "+" sign appeared in front of the phone number on the other end.

The issue isn't limited to messaging Android users; it also affects those using Google Voice numbers. However, the problem appears to only impact iPhone owners in the US. A Reddit thread about the issue has also been posted, with many iPhone owners reporting similar problems with their devices.

As of now, there appears to be no clear reason for this error. It seems the issue is related to the iPhone, as there have been no reports of problems with users sending messages from Macs. The recently released iOS 16.5 update from Apple also doesn't seem to be the cause, as many iPhone owners have reported experiencing the problem before the update was released.

Regarding troubleshooting, some iPhone users suggested that sending a message to themselves might fix the issue. Some users suggested a fix was already available on the server side, while others said simply changing the number format by adding a "+1" in front was sufficient.
