Messenger started having problems around 8:30 p.m. on May 2, while the Facebook app was still working. According to some users, they could still send messages and see "Sent" but the receiving end did not receive any new notifications, while others said they could not reload content or refresh the app on their personal phones.

"I was discussing tomorrow's work with my boss when suddenly I felt silence. A few minutes later, my boss called to inform me that he couldn't send new messages or that there was a problem. Looking at my personal Facebook, I saw that many of my friends were experiencing the same situation," Hoang Anh, a communications officer in Hanoi, shared.
On the DownDetector website - the address for reporting incidents of global online services, the number of users reporting Messenger connection errors increased dramatically just minutes after the first responses. This is a sign that the application is malfunctioning on a large scale, not only in Vietnam. In addition, the incident also reflects the popularity of Facebook's messaging software in users' communication activities.
According to statistics based on reports, up to 78% of Messenger users said they encountered errors in sending messages, 16% had errors in receiving messages, and errors due to the application accounted for 7% of the total number of responses. However, many people said that their application was working normally just a few minutes after the report. This fact is also shown by the number of responses gradually decreasing after quickly reaching the peak in the "vertical" state on the chart.
By 9 p.m., some connections had been restored. Meta (the parent company of Facebook, Messenger, and Instagram) has yet to respond to the cause of the problem. In many previous incidents, the reasons were mostly related to adjustments and additions to certain features on the app, which were quickly fixed.
