The incident took place at the AT&T Stadium in Texas on June 17th. Before kick-off, coach Tuchel was visibly annoyed that around 50 photographers were crowding the technical area, completely obstructing his view.
As a result, while the song "God Save the King" (the English national anthem) was playing, coach Tuchel was unable to observe the English players and had to look at the large screen on the pitch. He also repeatedly reacted angrily to the group of reporters.
In the post-match press conference, the England manager frankly shared: "It was a very special moment, but the photographers were only half a meter away from me. I couldn't see any of the players and that ruined my experience. I suggest FIFA needs to change that."
According to British media, FIFA quickly accepted this suggestion. From the upcoming matches onwards, coaching staff of national teams will be allowed to move along the sidelines to watch the national anthem ceremony with the clearest possible view.
This complaint is all the more significant considering that before the tournament, Tuchel had stated he wouldn't sing the English national anthem until the team reached the final because he wanted to truly "deserve" it.
Although not yet ready to sing along with his players, coach Tuchel affirmed that he considers England his second home and always feels a sense of returning whenever he sets foot in London. Ignoring the off-field troubles, Thomas Tuchel and his team had a dream start to the World Cup , crushing Croatia 4-2 thanks to a brace from Harry Kane and goals from Jude Bellingham and Marcus Rashford.
The talent of this German manager was fully demonstrated in the convincing victory of the "Three Lions". His mastery was not only evident in the well-executed corner kick that helped Kane increase the score to 2-1, or the transformation in the team's performance in the second half, but also in the impact of his substitutions in the match-winning goal - where the duo of Bukayo Saka and Marcus Rashford, coming off the bench, combined to create the fourth goal.
On June 23rd, England will play their second match against Ghana in Boston with the goal of securing their place in the next round early.
