The International Football Federation (FIFA) has officially unveiled a special ball equipped with artificial intelligence (AI) for the 2026 World Cup.

The product, named Trionda – meaning “three waves” – sells for around $160 . The ball is designed for both players and referees, with an internal sensor system that helps identify offside and handball situations.

Aesthetically, Trionda uses a white color scheme combined with splashes of red, blue, and green – symbolizing the three host nations of the 2026 World Cup: the United States, Canada, and Mexico. Many have commented that the overall color scheme is reminiscent of the Brazuca ball used in 2014.

The highlight of Trionda's technology is its next-generation Connected Ball Technology, upgraded with AI. A chip inside the ball sends real-time data to the VAR system. When combined with player positional data on the field, this technology helps the refereeing team more quickly identify offsides and handball situations.

FIFA and Adidas stated that the ball is constructed from four panels with deep grooves and strategically placed concave patterns, helping to stabilize the ball during flight. This is an effort to avoid a repeat of the criticisms at recent World Cups, where players complained about the ball's uncontrollable trajectory.

During the promotional campaign, many stars such as Lionel Messi, Jude Bellingham, and Lamine Yamal appeared alongside Trionda.
