On the morning of December 18th, the International Football Federation (FIFA) announced the winners of The Best 2024 awards. In the most anticipated category, Best Male Player of the Year, Vinicius Junior was honored. Before Vinicius, the last Brazilian player to be awarded the FIFA World Player of the Year title was Kaka (2007).
Vinicius' biggest achievement in 2024 was winning a double with Real Madrid. The Brazilian striker played a major role in helping the Bernabeu team win La Liga (the Spanish national championship) and the UEFA Champions League (European Cup).
Vinicius won the FIFA The Best award.
Vinicius scored one goal in the Champions League final against Dortmund. He was also named the best player of the tournament.
The Real Madrid and Brazil striker received 48 votes. He was only 5 points ahead of the runner-up, the reigning Ballon d'Or winner Rodri (Spain, Man City). Third place went to Jude Bellingham (England, Real Madrid) with 37 votes.
Lionel Messi is still included in the list of 11 nominees and ranks in the middle of the voting results. The Argentine superstar received 25 points, ranking 6th, still higher than Erling Haaland and Kylian Mbappe. However, Messi is not included in the 2024 Team of the Year.

In the Coach of the Year category, the top name is Carlo Ancelotti. The Italian coach led Real Madrid to win La Liga and the Champions League. Following the Real Madrid manager are Xabi Alonso – who led Bayer Leverkusen to an unbeaten Bundesliga title, EURO 2024 champion Luis de la Fuente, Pep Guardiola, and Lionel Scaloni.
Manchester United also had a player honored at the FIFA The Best 2024 awards ceremony: Alejandro Garnacho, winner of the Puskas Award for the best goal of the year.
