The ceremony was witnessed by representatives from departments and agencies of Lam Dong province, the People's Committee of Da Lat city, and many tourists visiting this oldest and most beautiful railway station in Indochina.
At the announcement ceremony, Mr. Tran Anh Tuan, Deputy General Director of Vietnam Railways Corporation, said that with the desire to make Da Lat Station a destination of culture, art, history and heritage, in recent years, along with the renovation and upgrading of the station, the railway industry has invested in upgrading and developing transportation products on the Da Lat - Trai Mat route to form a complete service supply chain, creating a highlight for tourism such as: launching the "Railway, Flower Road" movement, inaugurating the "Da Lat Night Journey"...
As a result, in the first six months of 2024, the total number of visitors to Da Lat train station for sightseeing and train travel reached over 275,000 people. Total revenue from tourism activities at Da Lat train station reached over 11.4 billion VND.
According to Nguyen Trung Kien, Director of the Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism of Lam Dong province, Da Lat Railway Station is not only a unique architectural landmark of Da Lat city but also a place that marks a special milestone in the history of Vietnam's railway industry. In 2001, Da Lat Railway Station was classified as a National Monument by the Ministry of Culture and Information (now the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism). Over the years, Da Lat Railway Station has actively introduced the "Da Lat Night Journey" product, offering passengers new experiences and allowing them to appreciate the beauty of Da Lat city at night, contributing to the diversification of services and the development of tourism and the night economy. Currently, Da Lat Railway Station is a popular tourist destination attracting visitors to explore its history and experience the railway in Da Lat city.
Organizing the ceremony to announce the decision recognizing "Da Lat Railway Station" as a tourist destination is an effective opportunity to promote and advertise tourism; at the same time, it creates favorable conditions for domestic and foreign service businesses to research, explore opportunities, and cooperate in investment at Da Lat Railway Station. This encourages tourism businesses to improve product quality while protecting the environment and landscape, creating unique tourism products that attract domestic and international tourists to Da Lat and Lam Dong.
In the near future, Vietnam Railways Corporation will hire a consulting firm to develop a master plan for infrastructure investment to serve tourists at Da Lat Railway Station, encompassing 12 items. This includes investing in additional carriages to run trains from Da Lat Station to Trai Mat Station and organizing train services to watch the sunrise and enjoy the scenery of Da Lat city. Following this, the investor will develop a proposal for a fee collection scheme for the "Da Lat Railway Station" tourist attraction and a pricing plan for services to be submitted to the relevant authorities for approval. It is expected that the tourist attraction will implement the new fee collection rates from October 1st, 2024…
