While phone manufacturers have used lithium-ion (Li-ion) batteries for decades, recent rumors suggest Samsung may switch to this new battery technology for the Galaxy S26 series launching in 2026.
Lithium-ion batteries have been the default solution for phone manufacturers since before smartphones came along. However, battery manufacturers are developing new technologies, including silicon-carbon batteries.

Leaker Ice Universe revealed that the Galaxy S26 series will be powered by this new silicon-carbon battery technology, promising impressive improvements. Silicon-carbon technology stores energy in silicon-carbon instead of rare elements like cobalt, lithium, and nickel, which are difficult to mine and whose processes are very harmful to the environment. This could bring significant benefits to the environment.
This technology improves battery life for the Galaxy S26 series while also contributing to increased safety due to a lower risk of overheating.
Previously, there were reports that Samsung might bring back the high-end Exynos chip on the Galaxy S26 series instead of just using the Qualcomm chipset on the Galaxy S25 series. This means we will see the Galaxy S26 series appear with two different chip variants, depending on the market they will be released in.
