Manchester United have wanted Conor Gallagher for a long time. |
According to AS , Gallagher is very excited about the prospect of playing for Manchester United. Atletico Madrid are also willing to sell the 25-year-old for around 30 million euros, a figure the Red Devils can easily meet.
With manager Ruben Amorim looking to strengthen his midfield, Gallagher would be a suitable option in terms of both age and price. Manchester United have been interested in Gallagher since the end of August, even submitting a loan offer, but Atletico rejected it as they did not want to lose a key player at the start of the season.
Now, the situation has changed as Atletico Madrid no longer consider Gallagher "untouchable". The former Chelsea star moved to Atlético Madrid for a fee of €42 million in the summer of 2024, but has never truly secured a starting place under Diego Simeone.
The 2025/26 season saw him start only 3 La Liga matches, with a total of 15 appearances and just 1 goal. This made Gallagher eager to return to England, where he could be guaranteed more regular playing time and a place in the squad for the 2026 World Cup.
Manchester United's current results show that midfield remains a major problem. Therefore, it's understandable that manager Ruben Amorim is eager to add a versatile midfielder in January. If Gallagher arrives at Old Trafford, Amorim will have another versatile option in midfield who understands English football.
