Gallagher wants to join MU

Conor Gallagher is the focus of the January transfer window, as he looks set to return to the Premier League to join Manchester United.

MU has wanted Conor Gallagher for a long time.

According to AS , Gallagher is very excited about the prospect of playing for Manchester United. Atletico Madrid are also willing to sell the 25-year-old for around 30 million euros, a figure the "Red Devils" can easily meet.

With coach Ruben Amorim looking to strengthen his midfield, Gallagher would be a suitable option in terms of both age and fee. Manchester United have been interested in Gallagher since the end of August, even sending a loan offer but Atletico rejected it because they did not want to lose a key player at the beginning of the season.

Now, things have changed as Atletico Madrid no longer see Gallagher as “untouchable”. The former Chelsea star moved to Atlético Madrid for €42 million in the summer of 2024, but has never really established himself as a starter under Diego Simeone.

The 2025/26 season saw him start just three La Liga games, with a total of 15 appearances and just one goal. This has left Gallagher desperate to return to England, where he can secure more regular starting football, and be part of the 2026 World Cup squad.

MU's current results show that midfield continues to be their big problem. Therefore, it is not difficult to understand why coach Ruben Amorim wants to urgently add a comprehensive midfielder in January. If Gallagher arrives at Old Trafford, Amorim will have another versatile option in midfield and knowledgeable about English football.
