The 2025 Game Awards have just concluded, marking a vibrant year for the video game industry. Hosted by Geoff Keighley, the event continues to be the biggest annual global gaming event, celebrating the most outstanding products of the past 12 months. The ceremony also announced a host of new projects through exclusive trailers and presentations.
The highlight of this year's awards ceremony belonged to Clair Obscur: Expedition 33. This role-playing game entered the Game Awards 2025 with a record 13 nominations and ended the ceremony with an overwhelming victory.
In particular, the product from Sandfall Interactive studio won 8 awards out of 10 nominated categories, including the prestigious Game of the Year award. This achievement is unprecedented in the history of the Game Awards.
In addition to the Game of the Year title, Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 also won in many other important categories such as Best Story, Best Game Director, Best Art Design, Best Original Score, Best Role-Playing Game, Best Independent Game, Best Debut Indie Game, and Best Performance for Jennifer English. The game's near-absolute dominance became the biggest highlight of the entire event.
Besides Clair Obscur, several other awards were given to familiar names such as Donkey Kong Bananza, Hades 2, and ARC Raiders, creating a diverse picture of trends and quality in the gaming industry over the past year.
This year's Game Awards also garnered attention thanks to a series of new trailers and announcements. Notably, the reveal of Star Wars: Fate of the Old Republic, along with a mysterious trailer related to Larian Studios' next project, confirmed to be titled Divinity, was a highlight. Additionally, trailers for Control: Resonant and two new Tomb Raider titles also excited the gaming community.
Game Awards have long since transcended the boundaries of a mere awards ceremony, becoming an important "stage" for developers and publishers to announce their future strategies.
One of the most memorable moments of the awards night was when Geoff Keighley reiterated his father David Keighley's quote: "Perfection is unattainable and unaffordable. Only excellence can achieve it." This message perfectly reflects Clair Obscur: Expedition 33's victory, as the game not only won Game of the Year but also set a new milestone for The Game Awards.
