A familiar opponent of the Vietnamese national team.
The Vietnamese national team will play their opening match of the AFF Cup 2024 against a familiar opponent, the Laotian national team. The match between Coach Kim Sang-sik's team and Laos will take place at 8 PM on December 9th at the Laotian National Stadium.
In the 2018, 2021, and 2022 AFF Cups, the Vietnamese national team faced Laos away in their opening match. Quang Hai and his teammates won 3-0 (2018), 2-0 (2021), and 3-0 (2022) respectively. With 8 goals scored and none conceded, the Vietnamese team maintained a dominant advantage in matches against their neighboring rival.

The Vietnamese national team will kick off the AFF Cup 2024 with an away match against Laos.
In 4 out of the last 5 AFF Cup tournaments, the Vietnamese national team was in the same group as Laos and always reached at least the semi-finals.
However, the match against the Laotian team on December 9th will not be easy. The Laotian team recently drew 1-1 with Thailand in a friendly match in November. This is an encouraging result for coach Ha Hyeok-jun and his team. The South Korean coach is rejuvenating the Laotian team and instilling a more disciplined and disciplined style of play compared to before.
With star player Bounphachan Bounkong and many other young talents, including those who reached the final of the 2022 Southeast Asian U.19 Championship with the Laos U.19 team and the semi-finals of the 2022 Southeast Asian U.23 Championship with the Laos U.23 team, the Laos national team is a highly ambitious group, ready to spring a surprise in Group B.
Convenient schedule
After the match against Laos, Coach Kim Sang-sik's team had a rest in the second match, which took place on December 12th. The whole team returned for the third match, a clash against Indonesia at Viet Tri Stadium ( Phu Tho province), at 8 PM on December 15th. The five-day period after the match against Laos was enough for the Vietnamese team to prepare their tactics for the match against Indonesia, an opponent who only had two days of rest.
In the fourth matchday, the Vietnamese national team will play away at the Rizal Memorial Stadium in the Philippines. The match will take place at 8 PM on December 18th.

Coach Kim Sang-sik and his team are rushing to prepare.
In the final match, the Vietnamese team will face Myanmar at home, in a game taking place at 8 PM on December 21st.
The advantage for the Vietnamese team is that coach Kim Sang-sik's squad will avoid the fiery Gelora Bung Karno stadium in Indonesia, and will also not have to play away against a passionate and unpredictable opponent like Myanmar.
If the Vietnamese team performs well in the two home matches in Viet Tri, they will almost certainly qualify for the semi-finals.
