At its launch event on December 6th, Google showcased a video of Gemini interacting with image data via a camera mounted on a table, asking questions and solving problems like a human assistant manipulating objects. The video, demonstrating Gemini's smooth performance, quickly impressed users. However, Google admitted to Bloomberg that the video had been digitally altered.
Furthermore, Gemini continues to disappoint netizens by providing misleading information. This reminds many of Google's "flawed" Bard AI launch in February, when the chatbot gave incorrect answers during CEO Sundar Pichai's product introduction. Bard AI is currently running on the Pro version of Gemini.
Gemini's capabilities did not live up to user expectations.
According to Insider , Bard AI consistently answers simple questions incorrectly. One user reported that the chatbot even fabricated information when asked who would win Best Actor at the 2023 Oscars. Furthermore, Bard's language skills are limited. For example, when asked "give me a six-letter word in French," Gemini Pro gave an answer with only five letters.
When users ask for information on controversial topics, Bard AI will refuse to answer and advise users to search for the information themselves on Google. Meanwhile, rival chatbots like Elon Musk's Grok, Bing, and ChatGPT Pro can provide detailed answers.
Previously, Google warned that Bard AI could display inaccurate information, so users needed to double-check the answers. The company stated that Gemini Ultra performed better than OpenAI's GPT-4, but the Pro version only performed better than GPT-3.5.
Google is rolling out Gemini in phases, with plans to release the top-of-the-line Ultra version in early 2024.
