In the metals market, platinum prices became the focus, falling sharply by more than 7.4% to $2,253 per ounce. According to the Vietnam Commodity Exchange (MXV), the main pressure came from portfolio restructuring activities of investment funds amidst a reversal in global supply and demand prospects.
Data from the US Commodity Futures Trading Commission (CFTC) shows that, although Managed Money maintained a net long position, the size of the net long position narrowed sharply, to only 4,336 contracts by the end of December 2025, a decrease of 58% compared to the beginning of the month.
In addition, the latest report from the World Platinum Investment Council (WPIC) forecasts that the global platinum market will end its three-year deficit streak and move into a slight surplus of approximately 20,000 ounces in 2026.
Mining output is expected to increase by 2%, while secondary supply from recycling could rise by up to 10% thanks to last year's high prices. These signals have triggered profit-taking and a sharp correction in the short term.

Conversely, the agricultural commodities market saw a clear recovery as wheat prices rose sharply. At the close of trading, Kansas wheat prices increased by more than 1.9% to $195.29 per ton, while Chicago wheat rose nearly 0.5% to $190.33 per ton.
According to MXV, concerns about the outlook for the US winter wheat crop are the main driver supporting prices. Similar quality deterioration is also spreading across plains regions like Nebraska and Oklahoma, and soft wheat producing areas in Illinois and Ohio, putting direct pressure on the supply-demand balance.
Amid market anticipation of the upcoming World Agricultural Supply and Demand Report (WASDE), MXV predicts that wheat prices could maintain a positive short-term trend if weather risks continue to increase in the US.
