At this time of year, rambutan is in its peak season, but sales are slow and prices have dropped sharply, causing concern among farmers. Currently, the price of many types of rambutan has decreased by 10,000-15,000 VND/kg compared to last month.

Specifically, Java rambutan is being sold by farmers to traders at 5,000-6,000 VND/kg, while Thai rambutan is priced at 15,000 VND/kg. Retail prices at markets are around 15,000 VND/kg for Java rambutan and 25,000-30,000 VND/kg for Thai rambutan.

Mr. Vo Van Be, Chairman of the Board of Directors and Director of Tan Khanh Java Rambutan Cooperative (Tra On commune), said: “Less than a month ago, rambutan sold for 15,000-20,000 VND/kg, but now traders only buy it for 6,000 VND/kg. After deducting all the costs of care, fertilizer, pesticides, and hiring people to harvest… the profit is negligible, or even a loss.”

According to some fruit traders, not only rambutan, but also many other fruits such as ruby guava, Taiwanese guava, Thai jackfruit, and red-fleshed jackfruit are trending downwards. The main reason is that fruit-growing regions in the Southeast are in their peak season, causing supply to exceed demand and leading to lower prices.
