At this time, rambutan is in its main season but consumption is slow, prices have dropped sharply, making gardeners worried. Currently, the prices of many types of rambutan have decreased by 10,000-15,000 VND/kg compared to last month.
Of which, Java rambutan is being sold by gardeners to traders at 5,000-6,000 VND/kg, Thai rambutan at 15,000 VND/kg. Java rambutan is sold at retail at the market at around 15,000 VND/kg, Thai rambutan at 25,000-30,000 VND/kg.
Mr. Vo Van Be - Chairman of the Board of Directors, Director of Java Tan Khanh Rambutan Cooperative (Tra On Commune) said: "Less than a month ago, rambutan was sold for 15,000-20,000 VND/kg, now traders only buy it for 6,000 VND/kg. After deducting all the costs of care, fertilizer, hiring pickers... the profit is not much, even negative capital".
According to some fruit traders, not only rambutan, but also many other fruits such as ruby guava, Taiwanese guava, Thai jackfruit, and red-fleshed jackfruit are also on a downward trend. The main reason is that fruit growing areas in the Southeast region are in the main season, causing supply to exceed demand and fruit prices to fall.
